Tank busters
« on: June 12, 2017, 06:50:23 PM »
How big is the difference between the hurri 2D, Il-2 and Ju-87G in terms of anti tank capabilities?
Which cannon is most effective?

Found some interesting Reading on the subject:
http://www.quarryhs.co.uk/tankbusters.htm

It says that armor penetration is:
NS-37_____48 mm / 500 m
BK3,7_____140 mm / 100 m
Vickers S__58mm / 400 m (20 degree angle)

for the Vickers: http://www.wwiiequipment.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=97:vickers-40mm-qsq-gun&catid=44:gunsrockets&Itemid=60

Don't forget the 75mm on the B-25H.  It has the capability of one shot killing any GV in the game.

Real Life was very different from guns capabilities, I think we had this link up before :

http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/04/04/ground-attack-aircraft-myth-of-the-tank-busters/

The 75mm used HE on the B25 afaik.
They should not be able  kill a 1943 MBT with it, the same problems even the  Pzkw IV had with its  short 75mm faced, even with AP ammo.

I Think ive seen it before and i know that they were in reality next to useless against tanks. I should have been a bit more specific i guess... the question is about there capabilities in Aces High.

Well in real life tanks fought open hatch.  If a 75mm HE explodes on the turret roof or inside the turret, the majority of the crew is dead.

I can never do any damage to tanks using guns only.  What's the sweet spot to aim for and attack profile?

It's underestimated.  I've taken out T-34's with it, coming in almost directly above it and putting a round or 2 just behind the turret. :devil

Coming in high and from behind, putting rounds into the engine compartment or behind the turret.  Coming in low and from the sides will work quite nicely as well, though you have the risk of being gunned down either by the MG's or the main gun.  With a T-34, coming in at an angle that gives you their sides as a flat surface.

If you manage to lob in a 75 inside the turret, yes, congrats , you have won the ww2 lottery, and probably died seconds after, because of the angle you need to get that one into the hatch opening.

You must also remember if shell explodes without delay on the exterior of a tank, it can not penetrate much armor at all, and normal angle of attack from a 200mph b25h can't be that high if you don't want to plant the bird at the distance you need to have a  chance of hitting that tank at all.

I agree with Save here. The B-25 would be even less usefull against tanks than the tank busters. HE ammo, shallow dive angle and a relatively long firing distance would make tank killing almost impossible.

Ive taken T-34s with the Yak 9T but it isnt easy. A vertical dive on the turret is best but hard to recover from so yeah the rear engine is the best shot to take if you can manage a 60% dive angle. The trick is to control your speed and dont get crazy with zoom view.

The IL2 is hands down the best Tank Killer tho there are a few specialists with the Stukka and the Hurri-D "none that I know are still in the game tho". The NS-37's with all those AP rounds will kill any tank tho the Tiger-ll is very difficult. I like the 9T as my "White Flag plane" cause its murder against the vehicles that matter and will pick off the occasional tank. Most of all the P-4 which you can kill with a level side shot.

I've killed Panthers with 190F antitank rockets, but since King Tigers presence are scarce, I've never managed to try to kill one.
