Clouds of Death
« on: June 12, 2017, 07:51:09 PM »
Using both DSX9 and DSX11, I get a frame rate of 3 whenever a front rolls in, and I have a decent computer. Even worse for a buff pilot, they are far too thick to see a target through in your bombsite even at 11k (and a teammate wanted to do a HALO drop of troops over a Vbase and he had to descend to 3k to see where to drop)! I'm sure that the frame rate problem is unintended; but is this how clouds are meant to be in AH3 in the future? If so, it's been a fun 4 years and I wish the rest of you the best.

If you are getting a frame rate of 3, then there is something you need to do to make your computer rig run better.  I would suggest posting your issue in the tech forum along with a dxdiag and ask skuzzy and other players for some suggestions.  If you want to run all the eye candy, there really is a bottom limit to a system.  I say this because, my system stays a steady frame rate of around 60 with most of the eye candy enabled.  If your real complaint is that you can't see through the clouds when a group of clouds passes through, right when you want to drop bombs, then we all deal with that.  I look off into the distance to see if that will be an issue, then either adjust my altitude below the clouds or come back around to avoid the clouds once they have passed my target.

The new clouds don't seem to affect my framerate much, if at all.  But, I hope this is a work in progress -- the "blocks" of clouds and the "halo" of light don't seem at all realistic (to me).

The last set of clouds were near perfect.  These new lighting storm clouds are neat looking but lack the fluffy cumulus look of the last set of clouds.

I do though applaud HTC for pushing the envelope wider.  We could be in for a real treat when they work out the bugs.

My system specs are in my signature, its a very capable system at 1080p; I use the default graphic settings at have easily maintained 60fps everywhere except at very large bases.

I first encountered the new clouds on Montis.  They are beautiful work, but tank my frame right as low as 19fps.

Could it be an AMD vs NVidia driver issue?  I use the DX9 version because DX11 doesn't run as smoothly for me.

I should add, the previous version of clouds had no effect on my FR.  In the scenario Hell over the Hinterland, the clouds over Germany were fantastic and dogfighting in them was very cool.

FPS of 3 is playable... Did it for years.. Just sayin  :salute then I upgraded from a Dell d600 to an Asus g750 laptop now settings maxed out fps 60 all day long clouds, fires and big numbers no change... Verizon cell tower hitting ping rate from 83-110 unless I'm really out in boondocks then jumps to 400-600 .... No affect on gunning tho cause I suck at gunning anyways.. Don't give up so quickly

I love the clouds. Absolutely love them.

It reminds of...well....actually flying because there actually are clouds in the air.

I have yet to see these type of clouds, 3k ceiling? I flew through the clouds yesterday,as they were different than before the clouds had been turned off previously(to refine them I believe). The clouds I saw were around 11k but I believe they were closer to 14k? Doesn't really matter, it could be just a recollection thing. Any way, I flew just under these clouds and had no problem seeing base and or terrain features. Unless they have been changed since last night around 10 pm edt. Some times I believe that some folk suffer from the old "Princess and the Pea" syndrome. You see that your Frame rate counter takes a dive and thus an issue with game play. Turn it off or at least wait until you notice a problem in game play THEN turn on FR counter to see if that was the issue. This isn't directed towards the OP, but it could be the situation for others. Its a work in progress and progress is being made every update.

I see the new update addresses cloud issues. A valuable lesson to learn here. If you don't like something just threaten to quit.  :D
