This week in the AVA--Pearl harbor

Pearl Harbor

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military
strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy
against the United States naval base at Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941
(December 8 in Japan). The attack was intended as
a preventive action in order to keep the U.S. Pacific
Fleet from interfering with military actions the
Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia
against overseas territories of the United
Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States.

The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters,
bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched
from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. Navy
battleships were damaged, with four being sunk.
Of these eight damaged, two were raised, and with
four repaired, six battleships returned to service
later in the war. The Japanese also sank or
damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an
anti-aircraft training ship, and one
minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed;
2,402 Americans were killed and 1,282 wounded.
The power station, shipyard, maintenance, and
fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well
as the submarine piers and headquarters building
(also home of the intelligence section) were not
attacked. Japanese losses were light: 29 aircraft
and five midget submarines lost, and 65 servicemen
killed or wounded. One Japanese sailor was captured.

Unfortunately they took out hte dumbca from the objects in the terrain editor. Otherwise I would have place them all around Pearl Harbor. I tried to actually attach the CAs, DDs, and BBs individually but they had to be attached to a base and I was afraid it would cause stability issues since they ended up being a phantom base.

yeah ghostdancer I get it. I tried to make a battleship into a static object but failed miserably. it would be cool if we could get some of that stuff into the terrain.

Yep and I wish I could have gotten the phantom base / fleet to work since when you have like 8 BBs, a few CAs, and 2 dozen or so destroyers with all their guns armed and auto firing ... wow Pearl Harbor was lit up like the fourth of July when I flew over it off line.

Yeah, I have been thinking about branching out trying a MA terrain or AvA terrain when I have some free time. That is always the rub. ;)

well the AVA terrains are pretty easy, cause theres not much to them. we always do 64X64. its the customization in them that makes them special.

the explosions in AH3 are actually from USrangers explosions from one of the AH2 AVA terrains.

easyscor had made up a good small pearl with destroyable ships that was 128X128. makes for short flights and quick fights.
