where are all the fso pilots
« on: July 22, 2017, 07:37:35 AM »
where are all these pilots at the rest of the week?  last night it was amazing and over whelming at many times with the amount of pilots in the MA.  I know nothing of this Titanic Tues. yall speak of but if we can draw them kind of crowds like an hour before the FSO flight during the week why did they quit the Titanic Tuesday?

FSO is slowing dying but my recent data suggested it may be taper off to what the population will remain at.

FSO is not slowly dying off.....

Last night's FSO was better than the 2 frames before it.

As Lazer pointed out that the attendance in the game and in special events, has always dropped off a little during Summer months due to the schools out for Summer, family vacations, Summer time outdoors activities, etc....

What affects FSO the most is squads that have signed up for FSO and have made commitment to have a set amount of squaddies show up each FSO frame, but don't follow through and keep their word when they are assigned a bomber or poor performance fighter.... They only show up to participate when they are assigned a 1/2 decent fighter or better..... this is my own personal view of my observation of FSO over the last decade

A lot of the FSO guys dont like the MA due to the type of play that we have in the MA. They come in before FSO and "warm up" but move on to FSO.

Titanic Tuesday was something all to gether different. At the time we have 2 MAs, both able to sustain 300+ numbers during US prime time. HTC made the 2 arenas to keep the numbers in a more socially friendly setup believing that new players would feel lost and excluded in a single higher population arena. They did relent one night a week, Tuesdays, where they would close down one arena and only have the single MA and so we had "Titanic Tuesdays". 600 players in a single arena.

Many FSO players don't like the game play in the MA arena because it no longer supports the team/historic/battle type play it use to. IF FSO/scenario game play shut down HTC would lose more than half of their subscription base. This game has shifted away from that type of game play, for better or worst over the years. We use to have missions planned and post every 20-30 minutes and players joined them. Instead of players yelling out on the radio after a base capture "which one next?" like we do now we would get the same question but the answer usually was "hold on I'll load up a mission!"

The way to bring FSO players back in on a more regular basis would be to have that type of game play again. I doubt with todays "need it NOW!", or want action yesterday! type players we will see that any time soon, but there you have it. Numbers will help. If we get 300 players a night in the arena again think half of them might like that type of play could help bring it back while the other half continues with what we have these days.

Fugi nailed it for me, I've been here a long time and FSO and Scenario game play is the only type of game play I like.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

FSO really is such a great wonder of AH. I Try to make it when I can. I think a lot of people like it more than the MA because squads are more intact, there is a real mission, and planes are similar year models. The MA is much less balanced. Most people are in the top performing planes. Ganging is rampant. If you cannot coordinate your squad, you are lone wolf or battling a hoard with people who you don't know. Constant running and picking from 190Ds. The MA is just a much more brutal place. Top that with having to fly so far in order to get ganged. People just don't want to spend the time for that kind of unbalanced gameplay. It's unfortunate, because if those players could play in the MA more often, it would bring back bigger fights instead of bigger gangs.

People, please read the OP again. He is NOT asking why the numbers are down in FSO. He IS asking why those guys dont play in the melee arena more as he had a blast with the spike in numbers in the melee arena BEFORE FSO started.

Back when we had two Late War arenas, Titanic Tuesday was implemented. The two late war arenas were combined to make one arena with one big map. You have to keep in mind that the population was large, so large that two late war arenas were necessary. So we essentially have what Titanic Tuesday was, one main arena. Many people only fly FSO and I cannot blame them, it is the best part of this game. For about 8 months, I only logged in on Friday nights.
