UPGRADE CHOICES WITH JU88
« on: August 12, 2017, 10:11:58 AM »
A JU88c Hard nose with 20 mm would be nice and or the twin 37 mm anti tank version. and I think the s models could do about 380 mph.

50mm and 75mm Ju-88 versions would be fun too.

Ju88G painted as as if they flew the bomber version, Imagine the fighter going in for the HO for the surprise of the day :D
My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

The Gs were exclusively night fighters. The Cs painted their solid noses as if they were glass-paned to fool any would-be attackers, if that's what you meant. That was common enough. They (the Cs) had mostly 7mm nose guns with a single MG/FFm, going from memory

Most common forward guns in Ju 88C were 3x 7.92mm MG 17 + a 2cm MG FF/M, later the MG FF/M was replaced by the 2cm MG 151.
Some had additional two MG FF or MG 151s in the ventral gondola, firing forward.

Denniss, I think you may be thinking of the shrage muzik setups.

Just about all Ju-88Cs that entered production had 1x MG/FF. There was a later model that started with the MG151/20, but this never entered full production. There also is a ventral setup that added 2x more 20mm cannons, but I've only ever seen proof of this existing on the later Ju-88G night fighter models. The gondola you see on the Ju-88Cs doesn't have the same shape and either has the glass for the camera setup (very common) or is faired over and smooth -- no guns installed.

The only examples I see that add 1 or 2 more MG/FF are those behind the trailing edge of the wings and firing upwards. Some of those even played with MG151/20s in the same location. That would be one of the bomb bays repurposed for night fighter use. The daytime maritime patrol loadout would typically have some bombs in there to better attack light surface ships that threatened the U-boat fleets.

Against things like Sunderlands and Catalinas, that single MG/FF was adequate for (1940 standards).

See the 2cm guns producing from the ventral gondola on this Ju 88R (A C-6 with BMW 801 engines)

Ah, an 88R. Based off the -C, but not a -C and with the radar on the nose not used during daytime.

They also didn't see service until 1943 and into 1944.

I don't consider them in the same category as the C-6, personally.

This was also an option on the C-6 although it was not commonly used on both.
