Scenario today started WAY to late
« on: May 21, 2000, 03:23:00 PM »
Today I took part in the Libya scenario.  It was supposed to start at 3:00.  My sqn mates all showed up around 2:45-2:50 for the event, and we where all briefed on what to do and where to go, what planes to fly and what loadout to carry several days before.

Yet the event did not start to several minutes before 4:00 pm. WHY? Because there where quite a few walkons that showed up all the way up to 3:45pm with no clue what is going on.  Every question a walkon asks takes time away from the guy who is trying to run the event (I salute you Busc for trying). We have multiple walkons asking where do I go, what do I do, all at the expense of the people who took the time to register and took the time to be informed.

Busc is trying very hard, Busc should be the ultimate authority in the arena, yet walkons are debating why they cant fly when its past 3:30pm. Busc is having to organise sqns on the fly for these guys and brief them.

Its Sunday afternoon, I stared at my pc for over an hours waiting for this thing to start, this is the 3rd week of doing them? It should be getting better.

Lets make some rules for these events.

1.) no walkons past 3:10pm, enough of this crap of showing up at 3:30, or 3:45.  You are taking time away from the guys who made the effort to register and be there early.

2.) Dont argue with Busc

3.) Better yet password protect the room

Sorry if I sound mad, but I wasted over an hour on a Sunday afternoon  waiting for it to start because of some inconsiderate individuals.  This is my last one till I hear things improve.

MM, additionally, I think we could save a lot of time if a)everyone read and printed the mission orders b)the orders where more detailed and finally c) the individual squads decided beforehand what field to take off from, what runway and so forth.

I don't mind a little wait. Scenarios are great fun and a big salute to Busc for really working his @r$3 off for us. <S!>.

One hour wait is a little long though and I am *sure* that once we get the quirks sorted out, waiting time will be reduced to an average 15 minutes. All needs to be ironed out that's all.

The Italians and I/JG2 got all the kills, II/JG2 walked away all alive without firing a single shot (except me, i accidentally dropped my DT and fired at my wingman Habicht at the same time  ).

Still it was GREAT fun. You should hear the voice com chatter - you JG2 guys RULE. Chatty bunch, and I love it

Looking forward to next time and thanks everyone for participating.

Part of the delay was due to me...

I had to take my kids out all morning and got in 20 mins. after the scenario was suppsosed to have started. I fired up the PC to see if I was too late to roll.

Turned out I had been appointed to be Flight Leader of JG I. I had to create the squad, find all my squaddies, get them tuned to a different channel til the squad was formed, all while alt-tabbing to the desktop to read the email orders that BUSC had sent out last night. It was a nerve wracking 5 to 15 minutes.

We finally got it all situated and airborne. We ended up with a successful sortie with several enemy kills and only one lost plane.

I saw your ribbing on channel 1 FDB's,  wasn't ignoring you, just very busy.

You have to know that it is verry tough for the CM to organise this all & even tougher to get things moving smoothly  when all are online...

A password protected SEA would help if, as you said some are "questioning" the CM.

<S!> to Busc, who has a terrific background going with each mission...there is a huge amount of work being done there...

PS: Sorry I could not make it yesterday, Not after the 3 Bottles of Tequila that went down...(Ask Spatula as to the "why"...)

You know when you go into the TA there is that message box that comes up with some basic instructions?  How about making control of that box part of the CM's tools.  That way, the CM could post some things like where the different sides go, and who they report to.  Might lessen the radio traffic.
just a thought....  By the way Busc, Thanks for leasing me a chunk of the arena for testing durring the second frame, It helped a lot. <S>

Thank you busc...

I personally appreciate you taking a lot of your own time to organize these things.  I too sat almost an hour, but I know we'll all get a lot better at the timelines as we do more of them.  Gave me a chance to get seriously happy with 1/2 bottle of white wine.    Maybe that's why I got 2 bomber kills, neve done that before.    Film on the way to you.

Sorry if I was a Walkon.........
But you have to blame Ripsnort for that, he reminded us that Libya started in 25 min. As always, I poped by to see what was going on and if any sides needed people.

Because of my work and very unregular workinhours, I can never "sign" up for a
scenario.
But due to this post I will NOT show up again in the S.E.A.

OVER and OUT.

Er, ummm...I reminded those who had signed up that the SEA event was to begin in 25 min...then I was asked by 3 or 4 if walkons were allowed, I directed them to ask Busc on the open text buffer first within the SEA.

My Buccaneer squad mates and I have always enjoyed and supported scenarios.  Sometimes fun, sometimes not, but yesterday was the worst. Wait around for an hour or so, then fly heavy b26 unescorted under 109 overcast.  Second mission, heavy P51 under 190 overcast. If I'm not mistaken, the radar was up w/dots on the first one.

I appreciate the time and effort Busc and others are putting into this, but a few things are spoiling it.

First, the delay.  An extra hour or two on Sunday afternoon (MDT) are hard to give up.

Second, the odds.  Two to one in favor of jg this time.

Third, coordination of allied forces.  Left hand doesn's seem to know where right is most of the time.

If I was the paranoid type I'd suspect I'd been snookered into a "target drone" assignment for the LW.

I may or may not be there next week.  Depends on what my sqaddies do.

Listen, Carbo I did not name people specifically, you did not even come to mind when I wrote this post nor did Ripsnort(who I am SURE did an excellent job).  I had several others in mind, people who where debating with Busc why they couldnt fly, walkons being told 5 times to tune to chanel 3 and not listening while the rest of us are waiting.

I have quite a bit of respect for Busc.  What he does is a service to the AH community, my post was meant to achieve 2 things.

1.) Let the walkons know what they are doing to the people who took the time to be there informed and on time. As I said above put a time limit that walkons will be accepted, not 30-40 mins after the first frame was supposed to start. If I knew I was going to be a walkon I would try to get there 10-15 minutes early so I could be placed NOT 15-20 mins late and then want to fly the first frame.  There are 2 frames, instead stick around and wait for the 2nd frame to start, that would be much better for the 50 people waiting then trying to accomodate several who can fly the second frame instead.

2.) And lastly I said this so that we can improve and make this better, maybe Busc needs a hand doing this?  Like I said I am glad Busc does this and I am not saying anything derogatory about him, I commend him for what he does *Salute*.  He was trying to be the good guy here and fit everyone in the first frame.

So Carbo dont take it to hard, like I said I wasnt even thinking of you when I wrote the post, but by the tone of it I thought I offended the King of Sweden or something *wink*

Ok,

First if you want these kinda things to die on the vine the first thing you should do is prevent walk-ons.  Second thing is to generate the "We only want our special little clique of friends in here".  That will make these scenerio's as popular as herpies.

I didn't take part in these things mostly because of they are to hard to find information for.  I went to the webpage for the Libya scenerio and to be frank I couldn't make heads or tails of it.  I lacked the basic principles of who what where and when.

But go ahead keep walkins out of your private play rooms and see how much support you get from HTC in the way of CM tools or arena settings.  Is it now any wonder that HTC is reluctant to put CM tools in the hands of the player??

geez am I really coming off sounding that bad?  I apologize If am I, its not my intent.

The SEA rooms are not for cliques as you mentioned but for the AH community.  Yes some people where told at 3:40 and up to leave for frame 1 and not to take off and disrupt the event (like shooting people down), 1 or 2 of them gave a smart alec remark as they left.

I just requested that if you are going to be a walkon, try to show up earlier so you can be counted and placed to minimize the inconvience for the other players thats all.  Is this such an evil request?  Do you know how much more hectic it is to deal with all kinds of people just showing saying "whats the deal here".

Bottom line is if you want a free for all thats what the main arena is for, if you want an organized event, thats was the SEA is for.

I know everyone has work schedules, family and many other commitments that can throw a wrench in showing up on time to a SEA, but use some sense, if you think there is a chance you might make it, print out the orders the night before so you know whats going on, be early to let Busc know you want to fly and he can place you, listen to Busc, if he says Frame 1 closed wait till Frame 2 dont work him over till he relents to let you into 1.

Im sure the staff can accomadate a certain amout of walkons and walkons are great, there are always unexpected absences but not to the point that the frame is held up an hour.  Dont forget, its Sunday, we have family time and commitments also.
