So?  There is nothing stopping you from flying one yourself, you're free to fly any plane you choose, just like everyone else is.

You get more perks for shooting them down  
Not everyone flies the latest and greatest, but it should be no surprise that the majority of planes are 10 eny or less when they are available to a team, you get more speed, firepower, climb ability, ordnance capability, etc. 
If you want some higher eny planes that perform really well against 5 ENY planes I recommend the P47D-11, the 109G2, the Yak9U, LA5FN, Ki-84, P-51B.

Late war planes totally freak out when they find a 1943 plane riding their 6. Their pilot's ACM book only goes up to G=3.

Those are the people who constantly whine about ENY stopping them from flying the only planes that they can get kills in or run away from fights in.

I don't think it matters that you are playing via Steam - the Open Melee is the same arena for both Steam users and non-Steam users.

I see a lot of late-War monsters too, and always have.   Doesn't stop me from getting in my favorite Flying Tiger P-40E, P-39, or F4F-4 though.

When you see late war plane, the best counter is to grab a Brewster (or other favorite early war bird)  and own them...... wait for the pm and 200 complaint and laugh

If anyone checks my stats, they would see that my primary bird for turn fighting, dive bombing, tank busting and bomber hunting is the 110G2. With dual throttles, a LOT of practice and the arrogance of other pilots who think it's an easy target, I have a blast. I have the 110 G2 set for attack, with no other planes used for it, so that I know what the dedicated score is for just that plane when I check my attack score.
