Steam vs. Turkey Shoot
« on: August 26, 2017, 07:18:03 AM »
I'd like to ask that us veterans back off the ez turkey shoot of new Steam gen players.  If we help these guys learn this game, rather than slaughter them (and they leave as fast as they got here), it will be a great investment for all of us.   :old:

Thanks for considering.  :salute

For what I saw yesternight there's new names who seem to want to learn as fast as possible. Clever questions about both the game and the settings. Let's try to keep them.

Also don't forget to mention/recruit for FSO from the new players  :aok  it might help to keep some that like cooperative play and missions.
urging them to find a fso squad and refer them to some squad leaders who can take in some new folks.  Would be cool to see some of that announced too in Melee.

I'd like to ask that us veterans back off the ez turkey shoot of new Steam gen players.

Be helpful, respectful and remember what your first few weeks and months were like.  Give them a good fight every time! We want them to stay.

But... I thought the proper customary procedure was like this:

1. Take advantage of their presence and slaughter them as quick and often as you can. Follow them to other bases, if necessary. Run away or bail outside proxy range if there's actually danger of getting killed.
2. Add insult to injury. PM them (even better: private vox!) and tell them how much they suck, that this is no place for them. Feel free to speculate about their sexual identity & preference and don't forget to extend that to their family as well.
3. CH200 and country channel are meant for politics. Make it clear you are a man with an OPINION, and everybody needs to hear it. Newcomers should be impressed by your manly way to express yourself. Also, tell everyone of them how much this 'rigged game' sucks, literally unplayable. You should know, you spent thousands of hours here!
4. Every salute should be met with utter contempt.

5. Wonder why the numbers are so low these days. Must be that damn Millennials fault!

There was a large amount of traffic on the help channel last night as well as newbie questions over country. It was a nice thing to see. Also saw a large amount of excitement over things us old farts consider commonplace. Even witnessed a couple of troop drops over unprepped fields to try and capture them.

Suggestion...if you have an extra 15 minutes to log in early, monitor Help & Ch 200 and answer questions. Your answer just may be the spark that encourages someone to subscribe and stay past the 2 week trial period.  :old:

I have noticed most guys doing A GREAT JOB helping newbs.  one even bailed with two kills to go to meet one.  some times I feel we are over helpful, as a new guy asks a question 3-4 will chime in with answers.  yesterday the bish-knight fight before the map reset there were several new guys on both sides and I think we were all doing a good job with them, I saw no 15k dive vulch kills and no real teaming up.

HUGE <S> to all the guys helping and holding off the trigger for the new guys

Lusche has a bit of a cynical side.

There was a new guy flying B-24s low over a port. Identified him as a newbie by the zero score, no star status and behavior.

I got a kill or two and saluted him.

The next day, I got a proxie on the same guy after one of his B-24s went down to airfield auto ack.

I pm'd him to tell him to avoid auto ack, come in 7800 feet above field elevation.

No abuse. No humiliation.

I don't think we should coddle the new guys; just don't be a jerk. Anyone who raises themselves up by putting others down should see a mental health professional.  :bolt:

It's the people like Jayro you got to worry about...the receiving end of his higher then everyone F4U is going to be hard for these new guys because hogs are easy....

Put yourself in more risk now for a greater reward later...that reward being 200-300 more folks in the MA consistently at any given time.

If we had performed this kind of yeoman service all along, Aces High would have been far more populated.

Along with Junky's idea, if vets can concentrate on staying low in any fights it would cause;

1. The fight be down forced lower.
2. Would give the new players the E/position advantage, most of them won't know what to do with it anyways.
3. Would educate the new players that there is another way to fight, or at the very least that altitude isn't everything.
