Menu Improvement options
« on: August 31, 2017, 11:51:26 AM »
Three ideas (from some of comments I've heard from new players)

1. When in game, instead of Quit on the main clipboard(which just brings you to arena selection), call it what it is.
 - change Quit -> Online Arenas and add Exit Game - exits out of Aces High altogether.
- when you're in the arena selection, change Quit -> Main Menu and add Exit Game - exits out of Aces High altogether.

2. Remove Video Settings from main clipboard menu and merge it under Graphic Detail - they're kinda the same but different. And change Graphic Detail to Graphic Settings

3. Change clipboard text menu items to buttons with text so it's more intuitive for new players. What we have is old school - but after reading the reviews, I picked up on this a couple of times mentioned that the menu items were not easy to understand.

1.  Yes please.

2.  Personally I'd prefer to leave it there, but possibly add it also to the ingame menu.  Reason being the settings you change there require a restart, and them being on the first clipboard is nice in that you don't need to waste time loading the game, then exiting, then reloading.  With the current system you can make the change before you go in.  But it would be nice to be able to look at them/change them ingame.

3.  Yes please.  Peoples' expectations of interfaces have changed a lot the last couple years.

Videos settings needs to be on the first menu. You need to be able to set resolution before the actual 3D game launches. For troubleshooting this is also important. The main menu is actually showing up before the game engine is running. It's a launcher.

I say we definitely need a revisit of the menu system and game interface. We're so used to it but I remember not liking the clipboard system when I first started and now there are TONs of problems reports or bad reviews showing that the interface is not good.

Look at War Thunder or World of Tanks for example. You get some graphic options but they're laid out a little more logically. I don't mean to emulate them, but we need to think outside of the current box. We have a lovely new graphics engine, so let's think about redoing the menu on the clipboard.

I think the clipboard is a great in-flight function, but maybe not tie the menu options to it. Maybe a separate GUI just for the menu and then the clipboard with e6b, map, etc whatever you like there.

Just a thought.

Another menu improvement is Home page-Scores and Stats-Statistics-Plane.  It should read Plane and GV.
