Bf 109G-2 (Trop) of 6./Jg 27 (The same squadron Franz Stigler was in at the time) based in Trapani, Sicily in the spring of 1943. This aircraft was built as a tropical variant, but after the desert paint scheme had been discontinued at the factory, and thus is in the standard gray day-fighter scheme of RLM 74 and 75 over 76. The dark spots on the right side of the fuselage are likely repairs of battle damage - I chose to show these repairs as being painted over with RLM 70, but it was also possible that they would have been the dark red primer. I just felt that the red primer looked bad.
