Waffle did me a great service by how bad buzzsaw is, then making adjustments to it inspired by player feed back. Gave me more insight into how players utilize the environment from their complaints. If you ask players to tell you what they think will make a good terrain, it will be a disaster because it will end up a Frankenstein by a committee of blind sculptors. If you read their conversations about how they use different terrains and their complaints, that is the truth of what they are looking for. Those become your guidelines as you setup the environment. Then what the terrain looks like won't matter. Right now I have the problem that shore battery guns shoot 18miles while my feilds are mostly 19miles. I have to get creative with this last phase of setting up shore battery's and PT spawns. There are 6 feilds in the center that I have to worry about. And that will be a lesson Haggerty will have to learn about.
Haggerty,
Terrains for the Melee arena will do everything they can to beat your brain to a pulp, depress you, and make you want to quit. Better get started so you can at least go through the learning curve. Easyscor will help you but, your imagination is all that will sustain you while it will lead you to some stark truths about the real limitations of the terrain editor application. For airfields, think in terms of triangles of association to other airfields. And for GV activity, use a stop watch and drive your assumptions along with being free and loose with painting grass to open up areas. Tankers in this game want their cake, eat it, and be able to throw it at other tankers. They want trees to hide in but, they want to see for miles at the same time without being lost in the trees. Three miles is about it for a tankers transit patience these days, while it makes M3's a target if you are paying attention. I'm testing the new bridges on this terrain, you will get to see how that works out and decide for your future terrain production avalanche we all will be looking forward to.
Almost there with this one to pester Hitech into taking a look at it for rotation. I know he has better things to do with his time, so I still have the grand tour of upping from every airfield in a plane, spawning every spawn and testing every task group. At least at this point it has passed the error checker for uploading to the Host. Did I tell anyone again how much I hate creating mountain ranges? I'm still thinning the tops of the ranges on the blue country's islands. That's another one for you Haggerty, it gets away from you in the terrain editor. What you think last month when you put in all the mountains was a good standard for all of the terrain, sucks big time the moment you put down a few airfields and start moving around in your new universe. In the terrain editor you are a 50,000ft giant building a universe, while in the same terrain offline, you are a flea wondering how you got the scale so wrong. Don't be afraid to revisit the whole terrain to fix things like that. If it looks clunky to you in offline mode, it will look clunky to other players respective to the limitations of the terrain editor. The terrain editor will not make some things look good and those you just live with.
