Axis vs Allies
« on: September 17, 2017, 05:46:46 AM »
Can we have an Axis vs Allies arena?  The current one doesn't feel like a main arena at all, more like a special event or private server.
What happened to the days of all allies planeset vs all axis planeset with MA settings?
Who wants to be limited to Hurri 1's and M8's?

Actually, this has been tried.  Arena was busy for a night, then no more.

Generally, the Allied plane set outperforms the Axis plane set, so significant side imbalance results.  And then the Axis people leave.

In the late war planeset, nothing the Axis have is competitive to the Allies unless you include the 262 & Tempest, then that's all you see.

Talk about a private arena style setup... :noid

The reason you see the planesets offered is for balance.

btw, this weeks setup is Spit V vs 109f-4. If that isn't good enough, then nothing in the planeset will be.

Aren't the 190D-9, 109K-4, KI-84, and N1K2 some of the best planes in the game?  Artificial balance like perks could always be used.

Haggerty, the only way it would work is on a small map like what they used in h2h many years back. If you try AvA on a regular MA map, with 20 mile bases, it will never get populated and will remain boring.

Some of the vBases in the AvA are as close as 3 miles, and planes are usually available at vBases. Usually, some Airfields are 8 miles apart. All the AvA[terrain name] terrains are built this way. If you don't see that, it's because a staffer put up an SEA terrain.

If "MA settings" means MA gameplay, i.e. capturing bases, smashing factories and winning the war... then you would have to look at the whole planeset.

And in bomb delivering, the allies are lightyears ahead:

B-17
B-24
B-26
B-29
Lancaster
Mossie 16

vs

Ar 234
Ju-88
He-111
Ki-67
G4M

And add to that the Jabo aspect.

Even worse, CV planes.  Kate and Val vs TBM, SBD, F4U, F6F

There is no amount of perking that can offset this unbalance if you are looking for a MA gameplay experience.

Honestly just think there should be only air bases and allow tanks to roll from there. One of the things about the AvA arena I didn't like was that it had too many Vbases and sorta had a lack of direction or point..
