Staying under radar
« on: October 09, 2017, 09:58:23 AM »
Sometimes when chasing returning bombers I like to stay under dar while trying to beat them back to their base, but with so many trees I notice my altitude is way above 60ft even if im at treetop level, does anyone know the altitude of the trees in the game?  Am I on dar the entire time thinking I am being sneaky?  Can we get the altitude increased from 60ft to atleast 100ft?

Someone familiar with the object editor may be able to give tree top heights.
It may also be possible to use .target distance and heading to set the target next to a tree from a GV and use the rings to gauge. Rings are 10 feet apart
Can't run the new version so this is the best answer I can give for now.

You could always engage them in the air instead of trying to pick them while landing.     Then you wouldn't have to worry about trees.  Of course, that flashing base icon will give you away every time even if you land and roll up to the base.

Offline choose the terrain and spawn a GV. Pull up the target 200yds in front of you and start driving at trees. The target will pass over them and you will see their different elevations. Or up in a gun pit and doe the same thing, it's a pain getting the heading to place the target at trees. Build a test terrain, drop a base on it, drop a manned gun somewhere near it. Paint on different trees from the tile list N of the gun. Then just pop up the target with the range and keep track of all the tree types.

There are many ways to get answers from the game itself with a little ingenuity. And there are many different types of trees in the game.

well if that didn't cause it to change to at least above tree level, I won't hold my breath we'll see under the radar possible again.

Not to call out the OP here, but why are there so many threads about changing/making adjustments to the game for things players have control of?

Radar is low, yes. It was dropped there because the main/only mission that was run in the arenas was the NOE. And it was used to hide and avoid fights aka "wack-a-mole". So now it is more difficult to run those missions. However, it is not impossible, it just takes skill. LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME.

The same goes for the GV spawning in certain directions. The LTARS never seemed to worry about that. They would spawn a bunch in at once and those that didn't get killed on spawn would kill the the spawners. They LEARNED TO PLAY THE GAME.

The same for the radar complaints seeing through hills. This game shouldn't be about avoiding a fight. Just because you suck in <insert vehicle/plane/action here> doesn't mean HTC should change the game, it means you need to LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME.

Seems like you might have responded to a few threads with that one post instead of just this one.  But you are mistaken, it is impossible to go NOE now because the tree level is above the 60ft requirement to be under.  You can be under dar if you are running into trees.  Most of us have been playing for over a decade, we've all learned to play the game, doesnt mean it shouldnt be improved.

Sorry, I think you should try harder. I've been here 16 years and find flying under dar challenging, but not impossible. That was my whole point. Players are lazy and dont want to LEARN to do these things and so look to get the game changed to make it easier for them.

I dont think making it easier to avoid other players is any kind of improvement in the game.

there is no trying harder when the trees are higher than the dar level

ahhhh so if the road turns you drive into the trees there too. You must go through a lot of cars.   :devil

The point is that more and more players want things to change in the game than to spend the time it takes to learn to play the game.

Thats not the case with this thread.  If you are chasing bombers or a 262 under radar, you cant be turning 90 degrees every 3 seconds because there is another batch of trees, then stop and look for the next path through the trees.  Being below radar should not mean adding 40 minutes to your 10 mile flight.  100ft is not too much to ask and is by far realistic.

How tall ARE the trees?  I'm pretty sure in AHII it could be done but there wasn't much room.  Not easily, but it could be done.

Haggerty, just doublechecking you realize it's 65 AGL, not ASL which shows on your altimeter, right?

Wiley.
If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

yes, even if you fly over the top of trees right on the beach you are over 65ft
