Auto missions in the MA
« on: November 10, 2017, 12:52:59 PM »
As one who was greatly disappointed that we never got the mission arena, where you could join arena-generated missions and build rank, regardless of arena population, I'd still like to see some element of this added to the MA. Say, once per hour a bombing raid mission with some minimum number of bombers launches to attack a randomly selected strat target of the opposing country(s). Or maybe an ocean convoy of merchant ships leaves port, destined for some other friendly port across the map; maybe if the convoy makes is intact, all the friendly bases within a certain range of the port are suddenly restored to fully repaired status. In either case, "Intel" would announce to all in the arena that such a mission was commencing in x-number of minutes, so players could jump into the mission or mount a defense. It could be designed to be tailored to arena population and player distribution across the countries. We really haven't seen anything really game-altering in quite a while. And it seems like a lot of the code work for this has already been developed.

+1 - I'm a little bummed out that we don't have auto mishuns in the MA , as it could add a certain dynamic that is missing - like if we knew a bomber formation was going to fly by at X time every hour, and we could try shooting it down, it would be kinda fun if that's what you wanted to do.  Regardless if it's piloted by another player or AI.  Same goes for barges like you said - having some automated element in the MA to make up for a lack of a dynamic gaming environment that is not player driven gives us, the players, an active target.

My thoughts exactly, Mr. Fork.

This would be a nice feature - especially for new players.  It would give them something to join and train on.  If a buff mission is upping every hour, you can join as a buff or an escort - or go to the other side and attack it.

I think it contradicts the idea of PvP. Just my opinion.

It seems to me that AI drones should be about giving bored players something to shoot at, and have minimal impact on game play.

I do not like this idea at all.  Players would go after the AI drones INSTEAD of other players, as one reason not to have it, and I have many more.

This. Exactly. I play for the human to human competition and teamwork. Not human to AI.

This is a double-edged sword. While I think the idea is great and could drum up some fun action while not "forcing" people to fly bombers, it could be seen as a downside to the game that we "have to use AI" to make the arenas look active.

Not only that, but the current AI is garbage. Bombers fly at full speed, never miss a shot with defensive gunners, and will maintain position in formation long after losing wings and engines - while still shooting your arse down.

What abiut the buffs not counting as kills and being ungunned... unless a player joins them as a gunner.

They would have a hourly mission hitting strats that woild be countered by trains or resupply convoys. Killing these buffa would be akin to hitting strats. You dont do them for kills but to change the logistic situation for the country

I'm sure the main idea can be tweaked to be useful.

Been out of town with limited to no internet access. Appreciate the sentiments on both sides. The technical aspects regarding A/I can be worked out, and scoring against A/I planes could be adjusted. The point is, these missions would provide a more realistic and immersive game play than we typically experience in the MA. The point is, when numbers are down, play is less exciting. How often do you get to join a 30-plane buff formation, or attack one, in the MA? I'm just suggesting that hybrid A/I-human player missions could revitalize things.
