Peculiar Bug
« on: November 23, 2017, 03:11:01 PM »
Playing with the Knights last night, and defending island Base 153.  153 is one of those "mini" bases with no radar, only 2 auto guns, no manned guns, no flight hangars, and a single, indestructible VH which has no doors or openings, and upon spawning from the VH you are surrounded by four walls. Because there are no VH openings, you spawn behind the VH instead of inside it.

The Rooks needed one more base to win the map, and 153 was being attacked, with me and several other Knights defending.  The Rooks were attacking across the field from the rear of the hangar; opposite my exit location.  Unfortunately, each time I spawned and moved a few feet, a tank round would pass through all walls of the VH from the other side and kill me.  Not only would the hangar not stop a round, but the gunner knew exactly when I had spawned, and where I was on the opposite side of the building.  Unfortunately, I could neither see or shoot through the same walls at my attacker.

The Rooks of course took 153 and won the map.

Later, I viewed the film and and "sat in the seat" of each player using the "Internal View" option.  All was as expected, but for one Rook player who could literally see all Knight GV's through any structure we might be behind.  He could also effectively shoot them.  The shooter was a T34, and thanks to a crack in the walls surrounding the VH spawn point I briefly saw him pass, but there wasn't enough space to shoot, and in any case I couldn't see the tank through the wall on either side of the crack.

I have the film, plus several screenshots from the Rook T34 looking at me, and me looking at the T34.  From my gunner's seat all I could see was "wall", but the gunner in the enemy's T34 seat was looking at a portrait of me "painted" on the wall.  All us Knights died without a single kill on the T34, and two enemy M3's with troops finished off the maproom --- and the map.

This is a game bug that needs immediate fixing.  I texted the Rook T34 player to see if he had any ideas about what was wrong with the game, but received no response.

There is a narrow space between the VH wall and the walls of the surrounding building.  If you carefully aim, taking into account the parallax error of the gun sight, i.e. aim using commander mode, you can fire through that crack and kill spawning tanks.  I've done it on occasion to kill an enemy that was camping the spawn concrete area.  You can also fire out from that crack to the maproom and possibly save the field by hitting the troops with HE.  It could be "fixed" by slightly moving in the two side buildings.

Thank you!  Yes, if you can squeeze a round through these cracks;  you can record a kill.  But, this was different; no crack alignment presented itself each and ever time.   The shots were passing through both sides of the hangar. I have two still photos saved, both at  precisely the same time on tape.  We are looking at each other through the crack. My view is a tiny sliver of tank with wall on both sides.  The other tank doesn't see a crack at all; just my entire tank as if the wall itself doesn't exist.

I've spent quite a bit of more time studying the film.  Viewed from every player's "internal" position, the "bug" of being able to see thru through double walls only affected (and benefited) one player in the fight.  Something else I hadn't noticed was that an auto gun was up and blasting the particular player in the side for 100+ rounds.  This player panned his aim across the gun several times but never bothered to take it out, even though it was shooting at about 50-meters range.  Neither did the auto gun ever have any effect on his tank.  Hi-Tech needs to see this film.  Anyone know where to send it?  If anyone else wants to see it, post me any junk or otherwise email address and I'll send it as an attachment.

Enemy bullets always pass threw structures and only explode when they hit the ground. These are "Dumby" bullets and do not do damage. The real bullet is only on the shooters FE.

This is not a bug but an optimization. Collision detection is a fairly expensive operation frame rate wise. Only your bullets detect if they hit something, bullets that are shot by other people are simply an effect on your screen.
