Special thanks to Lyric for all the info he provided on the 359th's colors.   This is a late-War representation of Ray Wetmore's "Daddy's Girl":

You’re closing in on photo-realism territory...   Wow.     :aok

---

Also, I’ve determined that on NMF airplanes the silver flap gap looks better than the green.   It’s also accurate.   Some OD planes also had it this way.   It depends.

The area on the 2D/diffuse map is just above the cowling on the right/starboard-side nose.   It is also (less-than-optimally) used as the aileron and rudder gap, but it is worth it.  Give it a shot.

Sorry for the fuzzy image.  My phone killed the resolution when I cropped it.

Its beautiful Oboe, one of the best skins in the game. Nice setting for the screenshot with the hangar too, very atmospheric.

Hands down.  Amazing.    He does the Mustang Mafia proud with this one for sure.

(I notice the white flush rivets.  That's a debate I've had with myself for a long time.  It clearly works well.)

Incredible! <S>
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Minor nitpick: I don’t think those small flush rivets going over the top of the cowling into the anti-glare section are accurate.  I count six rows (at least) working from back to front.  I haven’t seen these anywhere.   Skin waves, perhaps.  Rivets, no.

Perhaps your right. I don't see rivets crossing the upper cowling on the real planes either.

Looks like a row of screws just ahead of the forward hatch though.

Good eye.  I never realized those big ones went all the way over like that.   First time I’ve seen those.

Thank you for all the kind words guys.

About the cowl rivets, I think I first saw them on Fester's 31st FG "American Beauty".   Here's the best photo evidence I could find:

However I take your point and think I've made them too noticeable - all the photo's show the rivets concealed by the anti-glare paint.  I'll remove them.

I'm not sure I can duplicate that row of screws going all the way across the top in roughly in the middle due to stretching but I'll give it a try.

Great photo there. Really shows off the rivet lines. Makes sense that there would be rivets there, just very rare to actually see them in photos.

Yeah, I agree with both of you.   I think they must be puttied in, painted over...   That or Sierra Sue has something going on that’s different from factory production techniques.

It’s a head scratcher as I looked all day before posting to make sure I wasn’t missing something.   I chalked it off to internal spot welding and those big old screws.

Edit in: I’ve managed to find a few more with them.   Tarnish, paint, and light are major factors in determining how visible they are.   Maybe just dial them back a tiny bit but still leave them.   :headscratch:

The plot thickens....

I realize it’s a resto, but you can see the dimples...

https://goo.gl/images/fopo9V

“Lil’ Margaret” is said to be the most factory-authentic restoration ever undertaken and it has at least some of them up to the anti-glare panel.

Yet on “The Brat III” the only ones visible are the single row of large screws...

This is the final word right here.   :x

If we have to dig this deep to find an excuse to try and critique I’d say you’ve nailed it.
