stall turn in AH
« on: December 30, 2017, 04:37:55 PM »
Hi to all and happy holidays.
I consider returning to you.
In the meantime, can someone indicate how to reproduce this maneuver?

P.S.

For those who ...
The video contains instructions. I see it too!
in AH, however, I never managed to rotate as quickly as in  video.

First off that's an RC airplane so you cant expect it to fly like a plane in AH3!

I'd also add it has much better performance do to scale and excess thrust,oh and it's a dedicated stunt plane to boot!

That said you can perform a similar move in AH3,reduce power, kick left rudder and use the torque at full power to help rotate the A/C,on planes like the yaks,spit14 and temp/typhie do the same thing to the right!

  Hope that helps.

Looks like a hammerhead or wingover....it's hard to reproduce a smooth hammerhead in Aces High. I can't tell you exactly the controls for it because I fly based off feel for the most part.

That maneuver is also called a hammerhead. It's a vertical turn and you need to turn at the correct speed.

If you are too fast or too slow it won't work. Try around 50 mph to start.

If you have too much power you may torque roll when you rotate. Reduce throttle to reduce torque.

You probably won't rotate as fast as an aerobatic aircraft or RC model.

At 1:50 I do the above menrioned maneuver but I got it torqued out at first because my airspeed was under 40 and the engine torque ripped me in a spin bit recovered fast enough that the same outcome if I did it probably was made.  :salute

This video starts with a hammerhead turn. At about 2 mins there's a similar stall turn started with a snap roll followed at 2:40 by another stall turn where I torque roll. Those two are not hammerhead turns. At 4:15 there is a wingover.

I'm not sure how well a WW2 fighter would handle maneuvers like a stall turn/hammerhead. the torque and gyro effect would be nasty (especially since almost no one reduces their RPM).

Turning the Engine off greatly improves the ability to do hammerheads. Altough doing so will render other players to Believe you are a certain ex-player, at least if you do it in a 190 or LA..

That wasn't what made me know who he was. Engine off makes you not have to fight torque.

If ONLY....you had narrated what you were doing to get these smooth examples! Music was a bit loud, wish I could hear your throttle work. Simply amazing show though!

Also, realize that when flying a maneuver like this your airspeed and relative motion in the air mass makes for a near stationary guns target.  I’ve tagged many opponents when they pitch up, slow down to do a tight reversal, and make themselves hang in the gunsight.

Energy management is a primary concern.

Full back, flaps out. Plane tops wing to left counter it with right rudder.

I did it here at the 2:17 mark in this video

That's a stall turn initiated with a snap roll. Just before you stop zoom climbing straight up, push right rudder and pull the stick back, use the throttle and stick to help control the roll and get your nose down.

You can see there's no flaps in this case but some aircraft do better with about 1/2 flaps.

It's fun to fly but it makes you a nice target.
