Please get rid of the ...
« on: January 13, 2018, 02:48:02 AM »
GV ICONS -- it just encourages guys to use spies (cooperative folks on the other side, or a simple shade account) to find and report the exact location of OPFOR vehicles. :headscratch:

GV DAR  -- I get that its a game, but for goodness sake, NO ONE has this capability in the real world today, let alone in the 1940s.    :furious

While I'm at it, can we go back to a 200 foot AGL DAR BAR? (I'd be glad to give a lesson on earth curve, scatter, ground clutter, etc. on why the 69 foot AGL DAR is beyond silly -- so is 200 feet, but I'm going for one spoonful at a time here). :old:

LASTLY, Please consider bringing bring back MIDWAR.

Thank you for listening.

Has the capability of what, locating a very loud tank by employing triangulation?

Not to mention, every objective object in this game is a simulated military post and because of that, it is very in likely that any OP4 equipment would be able to just roll up, Park and start shelling the infrastructure without being spotted after the first couple of shells.

A single round hitting an object would alert the base in the same manner as someone parking their car in your living room at 3 am while you were sleeping.

While this thread will probably be locked a lot faster than the other GVdar thread was because it will fall in to the pit of a few superiority complexes. I hope that it can be constructive enough to give some insight as to the theory behind the mechanics and not a thread on how it’s destroyed game play.

The "Triangulation on Reports of sounds" theory would explain why the facilities (bases, Towns, etc.) flash when you get within a certain radius of them (at least I can accept that explanation).

Throwing up a GV DAR square around any spawning GV (whether it is Engine off... or, not) simply allows folks on the other side of the map to respond pretty much instantly--which I will argue is nothing more than giving in to the folks who want GVs gone regardless.

I personally enjoy all aspects of the game, I know for my experience, the GVdar doesn’t take away from that whether I’m on the ground or in the air.

One thing to keep in mind is that we can assume that because every base is a military objective that forward observers are present though we can’t see them and that perhaps GVdar is a method that HiTech is using to kind of simulate that mechanic of war.

I could be wrong but unless an armored column has time to dig in, spotting a moving column by using other elemental guides (dust, trees cracking, ground vibrations etc...) would be be rather obvious.

Perhaps a good solution to the issue would be to disable the GVdar as long as the tank is not firing or within a certain distance from the town, base or airfield. As soon as the tank opens fire the GVdar pops until all GV activity is zero’d from the base, field or town and/or the sector. Also not allowing the GVdar to pop at spawn points and only allow when the condition above is met(IE: when GV is in a certain proximity to bases, fields or towns and/or they have opened fire)

Just throwing a few constructive ideas out there.

Also, allowing the GVdar to pop when friendly GVs make contact with ENM GVs anywhere in the sector.

:headscratch:Wouldn't a simple bit of comms from the engaged GV accomplish exactly the same thing, without a ubiquitous and instantaneous alert for every player in the game (even those on the other side of the map)?

Yeah, in a perfect world. Haha, just getting people to communicate can be difficult at times.
