AH history
« on: January 18, 2018, 05:11:09 PM »
I did something quite fun today. I went to the announcement area of the forum and read the earliest announcements and found it quite interesting and that got me a thinking... I know dangerous. Would someone from HTC be willing to post some old screenshots of what things looked like in days gone by?

Sounds like a neat idea, but here is the reality.

We post an old picture of a P51D.
Google includes that image when someone searches "P51D".
The potential new player sees it and goes, "Ewww,...ugly game!"
Annnnnnd we lose a potential new player.

That is one reason why we get so many comments about how the game looks like it is from the 1990's.

Todd, the Wayback Machine will tell you! Starting from here, the blue dots in the calendar will take you back in time: https://web.archive.org/web/19990901000000*/http://www.hitechcreations.com/

Notice that not every link works. The first screenshots I could see were under May, 10, 2000.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

If you put the “evolution” shots into a composite image it would negate the issue I think.

One jpg/bmp with captions for the year or version.   Like a comic strip.

Just a thought.

That is why I have never posted a pic of my self... would break the internet.

At first glance I thought this was an American History thread.

Heh, looking back the early AH screenshots seem like clunky graphics -- yet we had tons of fun.  Eye candy is nice, but it's not about that.  As primitive as AW graphics were, I can still remember the first time I won a 1v3, and lots of other great times.  Tons of fun.   :D
