No sympathies needed. Just a cool story about my mom. She passed last week at 84 years of age surrounded by family in Minnesota.

A Couple of you guys have seen this as its on my FB wall.

My Mom broke barriers that women didn't even consider in the 50's and 60's, before NOW or any of the women's movements. She hunted with the men, whether they liked it or not. She took a lot of crap from men in Hunting camp but her feisty spirit would dish it right back.

She was always busy, be it Star organization in Coon Rapids, or secretary to the Guidance Councilor at the schools we kids attended. She worked at the Social Security department and worked at the company that produced the first MMU (Manned Maneuvering Unit) for astronauts to navigate their space ships without tethers. Her resume would be pages long and her experience was extensive in every aspect of her life.

She worked when women were supposed to stay at home, she hunted North American game when women were supposed to be cooking in the kitchen, and she raised 3 great children who were successful in life. When you met Midge for the first time you felt like she was a friend your whole life.

Raising us 3 kids, she was firm, but fair. She worked us hard on the farm in the summers. I never got too many summers off like other kids during the break in the school year but it taught me work ethics later on in life.

Her love for Family, Faith and flag shined admirably for her era. She was a leader, never one to follow. My friends used to tell me "You have got the coolest mom!". Yes, yes I did.

Photos below;

2) One of our many horses we raised. This photo was taken in Salida CO after she moved to CO in 1984.

That was a life lived to the max.  Wish we could all match it.

You're right to be proud, but I can't imagine how much it hurts.  Hang in there.

 :aok Sounded a lot like my MOM, and GrandMother. It did help to keep us kids IN LINE...as WE ALL KNEW not only did she appear that she handled a Firearm with some knowledge.....SHE COULD PROVE IT.   For example, with my Grand Mother when I was 10/12 yo and really didnt want to help pick the String Beans :uhoh Feeling good about my shooting skills I challenged her to a target contest...I win its VIDEO GAMES....she wins, and I pick beans, I got this :rofl  I shoot about a 1inch group at 50 yards with my NEW Marlin Model 60 semi-auto .22 with scope :rock she gets her old Sears & Roebuck single shot .22 her dad bought her in 1939....SHE SHOOTS THE NAIL, holding the target to the fence post....and hands me the bushel basket for the beans :x "We done?" :eek:  "YES MAAM" :bolt:

Rip...........two thoughts and please don't take the first thought the wrong way.  Congratulations on having a Mom such as her.  She sounds like a lovely, competitive loving woman and Mother.

Again Congratulations.  Secondly, my deepest sympathies to you and your family for this loss.  Their are not enough special people born unto this world.  In my humble opinion she was a special lady.

 :aok Thanks for posting this! Its a good thing! I wish more folk had been able to have STRONG women such as your Mom was, in their lives...you know? Luckily I still have my mom, well still have Granny too, in a way. Pretty sure they have met up, your Mom and my Grand Mother, sort of birds of a feather. Thanks for giving me something to remember about her today! I needed that mental hug :rock Looks like she knew her fire arms too. Looked like a BLR? Thanks again, sir!

Condolences Rip, I wish I'd met your mother after all the time talking to you over the last 20 years.  I too lost my mother about 2 months ago, she was 20 years younger than your mother, but still lived a full and vivid life as well up until her illness took her.  The Snowbirds Air Demo team did a missing man formation pass-over her burial as she is buried in their cemetary and instructed many officers and their children in her hears teaching there.

I'm glad you had family close for your mother, we did as well.  We'll be praying for you and yours, and hope that this painful time for your family will find peace quickly.

I lost my mom in Sept at 99 1/2.  I was hoping to spend her 100th with her.

She lived alone on 120 acres in the northern MN wilderness until her mid 80's.  I was on the phone with her one day when she told me she had to shoo a bear away from the screen door.  She thought it might have been after the salmon loaf (I'd never heard of salmon loaf) she had just taken out of the oven.  After that my ex called her mountain woman lol.

Sorry to hear about your loss.  Sounds like another good MN woman gone.
