question about water ditching.
« on: January 30, 2018, 09:36:22 PM »
At any point can You ditch  bombers in the drink after being shot up and not  give the OpForce player the kills.  Even when the player is within 3k from You and the ditching spot is about 5 or 6 miles from Your base?

If the bomber is close to a friendly base (in this case probably a CV by the sound of it), then yes, they can get a "ditch" while denying the opposing player the "kill".

No, it was a set of B25s and no where near a cv. they ditched in the ocean about 5 miles from  one of there bases after getting shot to pieces. Even if It was near a cv, I'm pretty certain it's still a shoot down.

I think a definitive Phrase is "In the drink".

Game treats water just like land in respect to ditching.  If they were closer to friendly territory then they got the ditch.  If they were captured, then someone else that shot them before you got the kills.

You could just keep fighting for your lives and try and shoot the opposing guy down rather than trying to find a way to game the system to avoid giving a kill.   :old:

Not always possible for a bomber to finish an enemy that is trying to shoot him down, especially if all the gunners on the bomber are dead. But as for the ditching once you are in the radar circle of a friendly base if you manage to crash land and not kill the pilot you will get the ditch even if you were shot up.

What determines ditch or capture is whatever the closest base is, be it land base, port, cv, or whatever.  If the closest base is friendly, it's a ditch and no kill is given.  Otherwise, it's a capture and a kill.

Note that there are times you can ditch "in the radar circle of a friendly base" but still be closer to enemy base, especially if there is an enemy task force around.  In that case you will still get a "capture" (which gives the enemy a kill if one is in proximity or has damaged you) instead of a "ditch."

I was able to be in the top 50 pilots ranked this month simply fighting the fights that needed fighting and playing the game as a rational human being that wasn't overly emotionally connected to my pixels.  I honestly think this game would be a lot more fun if people simply played it, rather than trying to find out under what situations they can get away with not allowing another player to 'score' on them.

It is my understanding there is no difference in the amount of perks received for a ditch/bail/capture/death, so not too sure what the main concern would be outside of not wanting to give a kill to another person in worrying about where you need to be in order to ditch without providing a kill to another player.

I believe ditching a perk plane refunds half of the loss.  That's a pretty legit reason to do it.   I'll quite often land a broken plane just on general principles or to see if I can do it, but that's just me.

I enjoy playing the game without getting killed or captured. So ditching matters to me. It make the game more suspenseful and fun for me.
