Rift compatible vid cards
« on: February 01, 2018, 04:18:49 PM »
Ok, here is my delima.

Oldest son wants to get a Rift so he can also fly with me.  He's almost saved up for it and then I remembered that his video card (nVidia 770 GTX) won't cut the mustard. Can anyone recommend a card that will work, including (gasp) Radeon?  (I haven't had a Radeon in almost 15 years)

I put a Nvidia GTX1060 in my previous PC was ASUS and had an 770 in it at time. May have been a 970? Heck I cant remember and was just last March :uhoh Any way, the Power source and Base Motherboard would work with the 1060. It worked about as good as my current Asus with the GTX1070. Was only slight drop of FR between them. In VR too, With  most eye candy on  The 1060 did have one little issue, it was a TIGHT FIT. I installed it myself :uhoh and thought I blew something up, as couldnt get it to run after. Let a PC DOC look at it and seems with the size difference of the 2 cards I didnt have all the connections in the motherboard space/for card, connected...was easy fix and didnt charge me anything to get it hooked up CORRECTLY  I went ahead and bought the New PC on anticipation that I really screwed the pooch on the attempted self install :pray

Jimmy i wouldn't go with the minimum.

I did the GTX 970 before i got my new card and technically it works..but any time i was flying in a buff group in FSO or attacking a buff group, OR flying near ships, or flying at a base that had ack flying..it was slide show time. I'd wait if i were you and get a better card.
