changing default gunsite
« on: February 02, 2018, 10:58:28 PM »
I'd like to make the US MK14 star my default gunsite for all the planes, is this possible? I made a copy of it that I renamed default but can't figure out how to make it the default site for any plane I up.

First select aircraft in hanger, then go to gunsights on clipboard, scrool through the sights until you find the sight of choice then click the button to save that sight to the plane of choice.

You will have to go throught this for each plane you want to change the sight in!  Gunsights are found under preference tab.

  Hope that helps.

As Morfiend posted....

and there is no need to name it as your default gunsight, just go to preferences then gunsights and start at the top of the Plane list...

Highlight a plane then scroll down the gunsight list and click on/highlight your preferred gunsight click apply

Click on the next plane  and pick your preferred gunsight

Repeat until you have went through the list of planes.... just remember to click apply/save after each time you have selected each plane type then selected the preferred gunsight

I was hoping that there would be a way to change the site for all the planes at once. Guess I'll just have to keep changing them one at a time. Thanks.

If all of them are currently already set/saved using the default gunsight, you can go into the gunsights folder and rename the current default to "default_old" (this way, you will still have the game's original default gunsight)

Then as you posted, make a copy of the US MK14 and name it default and copy/paste (save) it in the gunsight's folder....

Be aware that there may possibly be more than 1 file for a particular gunsight.  Example:  "US MK14.bmp" "US MK14.alpha" <-------something similar to this.....meaning that you will have to make sure that you are including all the necessary files need per gunsight, depending on their design

Hope I've explained it clear enough for you

bustr can give you a more detailed answer if you still need help.... Just send him a pm, if what Ive posted isn't enough to get you what you are looking for

Hope this helps

Didn't they change the sights in AH3 to aircraft specific? They added all of Bustr's historical sights to each plane so that plane's sight is the default - - for that plane. I don't think there is a default for every plane anymore because of that. So yeah you have to change each. You might find they don't all display the same going from cockpit to cockpit tho.

You maybe right Drano.... I haven't checked to see how they are currently listed, but you're correct about them including bustr's historical gunsights package and all that it includes regarding MIL, etc...

Thanks for posting and refreshing my memory

Frist deleted the existing file default.bmp.

1. - Make a copy of usaK14star.bmp.
2. - Make a copy of usaK14star.mil.
3. - Change the name of usaK14star.bmp to default.bmp.
4. - This is slightly involved:

a.) Open the copy of usaK14star.mil in notepad and save it as default.mil.txt.
b.) Rename default.mil.txt to default.mil.

In the same directory named sights that you did this you will find files named in this format: p51d.txt or f4f4.ts or ki84.tst and so forth.

If you edit that you will see it has the name of the current gunsight associated to it. Delete all of those files with the names of the fighters you want only the new default.bmp to be associated to. Then open the game and they will all have default.bmp when you spawn out in them.

Or just associate usaK14star.bmp by hand in the gunsight app or edit every single plane.txt file and paste that name over the current one..........

Is that thing still putting out pretty blue highlights in the sun? I have not looked at it since I built it for AH3.
