MG 151/20 Gondolas and BR 21 - Service Dates
« on: February 05, 2018, 06:44:03 PM »
Trying to narrow down service dates for the MG 151/20 Gondolas for Bf 109Gs on the Western Front and the BR 21 for Bf 109s and Fw 190s on the Western Front.

I've seen JG 1 and JG 11 in early spring 1943 with the BR21 then to other units later, what about Gondies?

Any definitive dates for large scale or theater wide service for both options?

Thanks!

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Testing of the gondolas began in March '42, with final approval coming in May. The first G models (mounts and wiring for gondolas were standard equipment) were sent to 1./Jg 2 by early June '42 and 11(Hohen high altitude)/Jg 26 in late July.

Safe to assume that the gondolas were available at about the same time for the G's and likewise the field mod kit for the 109F-4.

Of the ~1700 F-4 built only the 240 F-4/R1 were capable of mounting gondola guns.
