Trying to gain a skillset that translates to the civilian sector. Unfortunately there's not much of a high demand for body stacking, demolition loving, heavy weapon experts in the US.
WideWing is most likely the Top Cat on these message boards that could offer you some advice, guidance and/or places to check out in regards to converting your skill set to the civilian sector....that's if you want to stay in that area of expertise and ability..... Think Civilian Contractor for the DOD or maybe working with a Bomb Squad Unit for a city/county/state or federal law enforcement agencies....
Just some ideas you could possibly keep on the back burner.....
I, myself, went and got my networking certs in the early 90's...exact same ones icepac posted with a few more... thinking of switching jobs from HVAC&R business which I already had acquired my HVAC&R license qualified from residential/commercial/industrial..... I was going to get my A & P license but after working on Navy jets, I thought the civilian commercial airline would be to boring... I turned down jobs at Lockheed in Greenville SC, Grumman in St. Augustine FL and a contract to work on Navy jets at NAS JAX, and ended up doing Thermodynamics and just kept building and adding on to my skill set (and resume).....
Best of luck to you
TC
Edit: after all the time and studying and getting degrees and a multitude of different certifications, my primary doctor, neurologist and psychiatrist forced me out of work and said I was disabled....bummed me out, I was only 40 years old....
