Proxies
« on: March 03, 2018, 12:57:25 PM »
Gentlemen,

I need your honest response on proxy rewarding.  This is not a whine BTW, seeking to understand game functionality on this.

Routinely, I'll fly to where I see a dar bar or red guys confirmed.  Sometimes when I get there the fight has gone.  No biggie.  I look at the map to see where to fly to find red planes and bail in some cases as I need to re-up to have a chance to get there in time.

MANY times when I do this I find a player has just got a proxy kill for me bailing.  Please note this is different than bombing and bailing.  I'm actually looking for a fight not running from one.

How is this good for the game to award people kills (for proxies) that have done NOTHING to earn them?

Thanks for setting me straight on this.

EDIT: Happened 2-3 times to me just this morning.

Jimmy,

Thanks for the response. You bring up a good point.

In most occasions when I do this is because I do not see cons or even a plane dar bar.  I am thinking perhaps they are below dar range or maybe a GV that gets the kill I dont know.

Slade, my suggestion is to not worry about ratio, score or who gets what, since, as you say, you're going looking for a fight. Don't worry about it, have fun. Go get your kills, and know that the person who got the proxie didn't get perks, just a kill.

Relatively recently they increased the proxy range possibly due to bomb and bailing.  Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

How is the game supposed to know whether you're bailing to avoid a fight or to go find one elsewhere?

This is very good advice.

And think how happy you've made someone by giving him/her the proxy kill!

Its either someone pinged you before and you forgot about it or you were within 1k of them.(Not sure if its 1.5k or 1K within to get a proxy.)

It is 6k. (ManuverKillRange is set to 18,000 feet in the MA)

The problem: The program can't judge that. There is no real way to differentiate between
- someone who bails to go to another fight
- gets thoroughly outflown by a goon and crashes into the trees into the process
- just bails to deny his opponent a kill

Some funny numbers:

I have 554 plane kills in the Tiger I (5739 total).
But I never ever have maingunned a single plane in it. At best I have two or three 'legit' kills with the pintle gun. All other have been proxies.  :D

A GV down below sounds a valid option for getting the kill in an "empty" area.

What caught my eye was "Sometimes when I get there the fight has gone" which in my vocabulary means there's no enemy planes to fight. What about chutes? I know it has long been possible to end flight right after bailing but not everyone does that. By own experience I can tell it's sometimes fun just to hang there for a while, possibly hoping for a kill reward of the guy whom you got smoking. I also know about long time players who still don't know about the "new" instant e.f. feature so they might do some cartoon pilot maintenance tasks during their chute time.

I recall some squad mates having told they've got proxy kills while having a leak after being shot down.

If you want a good score fair enough, i bail all the time if I see a fight some where else"

I don’t bail in bombers because fending of fighters is awesome
