AH FTW (Flying Training Wing) for each country
« on: March 15, 2018, 12:17:40 PM »
What are y’alls thoughts about creating an AH FTW for each country that all new cats automatically become a member of when they log in for the first time?

There are enough people online through out the day to fill each FTW on each side to provide that hands on training that these greenhorns need and want.

Instead of pointing people to forums and YouTube videos, try a hands on approach to getting some of these people up and running.

There's a trainer in the TA most nights, just bring these new guys in and I'd be happy to help!

Problem with training in the main arena is others can and will interfere and there would be little that can be done to stop this. In the TA this simply wont happen!

Just bring a new guy in and stick around and help or just watch, you might even learn something!

You can always start out in the rear fields, and go over the basics and then bring them in to a lightly contested area to learn some SA type of stuff and when they feel that they have the hang of it, bring them to an all out brawl and let them use their learned skills.

The TA is nice but most are going to jump right in to the MA and their stay here can make or break a sub.

...

Let us know how that works for you.  :D

The TA really is a better place to train players. You have more tools and fewer problems.

Doesn’t hurt to try does it?

What are cons against it?

I'm not stopping anyone.  :D

Or did you want someone else to do it?

I am willing to spend the time but it seems that most want a response from Dale to fix things.

Turns out people leave because y’all are ducks about the learning curve.

This was is our game and our community, take some of ownership and make it ours.

We have a help and training forum, and websites with videos, and a training arena, and a group of trainers to help with the learning curve.

For those that use it, very well.

The issue is getting players to use it. Far too many players jump into this game and think they can be a killer in the first hour or so like many other games. This game is not set up that way. "W","A","S","D" just doesn't get you very far here.

Unless your willing to sit there at the door and welcome and hand hold every new player that walks in this game is only for a few hardy players WILLING to go the extra mile to get up and running.

I get that there are websites, videos, write-ups and a training arena, the problem with all of this stuff is you have to dig through years worth of posts to find any information and even if you do find it, there is no guarantee that the information is even valid.

For those that are new, the information needs to be readily available from the moment they sign in for the first time and sadly that's not the case in most instances. As the player base changes so does the method in which you present information, this is a no brainer.

What would be the harm of giving it a go and seeing how it works out?

If the argument is "We already have a TA.", it might be worth evaluating community needs and adjusting accordingly. With new players leaving within 20 minutes of logging in and never returning I would say that that status quo is failing. Don't base this off your experience, look at it through the eyes of those that are leaving so quickly, we have all been playing this game for long time and our opinions can be a bit skewed because we already have a working knowledge of AH.

I'm not saying don't do it.  There have been squads in the past that fostered new players.

Give it a go.  :aok

I am gonna give it a go within the next few weeks.

I wish it could be set up for all three countries and auto place new members (first time loggers) in these squads.

Seems like it would be a rather efficient way to get the basic information to the new cats without having to forum surf or perform the dreaded YouTube crawl.

Is the training arena on the free side?  Meaning, can a new pup fly there as long as they want, upon entering the game as a new player without a 2-week deadline for fee subscription?

You probably won't get enough newbies for 3 sides to start. When you have enough for two sides they can fight each other, you just need a volunteer to lead the other side. Then when you have enough people you can have 3 sides.

Yes it's free, as is the WW1 arena, the birthplace of air combat.   :D
