IAS
« on: March 17, 2018, 06:22:28 PM »
On the clipboard under flight, it has a box to check for speed. It is IAS. I would like to see TAS displayed also. Most of the time I can't read the instrument panel because it is dark.  Only when the sun is in the right position can I tell what the panel shows for anything. Please add TAS.

+1 to TAS. Yes, I understand the difference between tas and ias. In a video game I like using tas.

I'd also like the ability to leave only speed on and turn off alt and heading on the dreaded hud (I hate hud in a ww2 game but have learned to accept it because of how they made it so you can't see the gauges without looking down and or zooming anymore).

Because I think hud in a ww2 game is lame, I stick it all the way up the the corner and use it only in planes that are harder than most to see the gauges. The less info I need up there the better.

That said, I'd rather see time spent on new and re-done planes and vehicles.

Why do you prefer TAS? IAS is more useful for assessing your energy state for maneuvers. Its also what gauges in actual planes will show. (Or calibrated).

Because I like to know how fast I'm really going. I use how the plane "feels" to assess my e state.

I'm guessing from this statement that you really don't know what the difference between ias and tas is or why ias is used to measure "how fast you're really going" in regards to flying in an airplane. Tell us what YOU think the difference is and maybe we can help you out.

Then you are doing it wrong. At hign speeds youd have more wind noise and at low speeds more buffeting. In between though its hard to assess airspeed just from feel.

Some of you are wrong, and a few of you have poor reading comprehension. I dont need you to tell me what you think the difference is, or why you think I should use one or the other. I was just agreeing that it would be nice to see tas in the hud with the added abiltiy to turn of other things in the hud.

I know what tas and ias are, and the difference between the two. I have a private pilot's license. Without a quick e6b calculation, TAS typically isn't available in single engine land general aviation planes.

I know you can turn off the hud. I need the stupid hud because I can't see some gauges without zooming in or tilting head and sometimes even then zooming. I wish the views were they way they were in ah2. No hud needed.

As stated, I like using tas in this video game. I also look at and use ias.

+1 to TAS in the hud and the abilty to turn off different hud parameters.

No need for an E6b, just add 2% for each 1000' of altitude.

I don't care that you do but I am curious as to why you want TAS?

Did you adjust your screen BACK to the Field Of View (FOV) that AH2 had? AH3 went to 86 I think, and AH2 was 106. You might try that.

Second, turn off all anti-alison in the game. This will sharpen the view of the gauges and make them much easier to read.

Third, TAS, IAS, what difference does it make really? Its just a number and your guessing what the other guy has and that is what your basing the comparison off of.

Considerable difference.  IAS is what the airplane "feels" at means the same at all altitudes.   TAS great for navigating and that high end mach number/compression type stuff.

In the game your pushing the edge of the envelope at all times. That means running the stall horn, shakes, black out, red out, all clues you use to get the edge to win the fight.

While in a fight I never look at the gauges, S.A. is all important.  TSA, ISA it doesn't matter.

Aren`t aircraft performance calculations done with TAS? best rate of climb, angle of climb, all those flight plan calculations, mass and balance etc?

IAS in the HUD has definitely helped me refine my hammerheads and managing my E while keeping eyes on the target.  YMMV.
