Fortress Europe MA Mission Week 2
« on: April 01, 2018, 02:53:19 PM »
To all Aces High Players and Squads:

There is a public mission in Melee arena being planned by myself.  This is open to all.  A simple 8th Air Force vs Luftwaffe high altitude bombing mission with escort fighters.  The primary purpose is to give some fun and excitement for those involved.  Secondary will be for raising awareness of the Fortress Europe event.

These missions will rotate among the countries to allow for more players to participate and to spread the word.  We understand chess piece loyalty. :salute  We do ask for those who could take a couple of hours one night to overcome this and have some fun with players you normally shoot down and fly with them against players you normally fly with.

Date : 7 April 2018 (Saturday)
Time : 9PM EST/ 8PM CST

Country selection alphabetically :
Knight - Allied
Rook - Axis
Bishop - Axis

Requested aircraft for mission :

Allied
B-17
B-24
P-51
P-47
P-38

Fighter escorts should carry plenty of fuel especially if another Allied aircraft is selected by a player.

Axis
109
190
TA-152
110
410
Brewster
C.205

262 is not requested for this first mission.  Should a jet emerge, we have no problem depriving that player from perk points.  :devil

Allied volunteer for this will be ShtGn.  :salute

2 volunteers from Axis side to coordinate Bishop and Rook Axis teams would be appreciated.  if Allied bomber force encounter captured Allied aircraft piloted by Luftwaffe pilots, then we will have to make the sacrifice of sending such valuable aircraft to the ground beneath in small parts.

Proposed Mission route will be at 22,000 feet for bomber crews.  Route will enter the conjunction area where Bishop/Knight/Rook meet and fly roughly zig zag between Bishop and Rook areas of operation.  Once all ordnance has been released, RTB will be called.  We will fight our way into and out of hostile territory.

If you can attend, please come out to the show.

 :salute

Posted in he MA tonight, We’re in the two-day warning mode. Understand when and where you need to be. Now if you will excuse me, I must go make an acceptable offering so that I may enter knit-hala.

I should be able to make this one.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Another quick shout out for tonight.

Last week we head a roughly 50% survival rate for bombers at end of mission.  Think we can up that tonight?

Question: Do we just show up in the Main... Will the missions be posted in the Main... Not a lot of information on how this is going to work.

After-Action Report: "Fortress Europe" MA #2 Mission  (04/07/2018, 2000 hours CDT)

Game Map was NDISLES
Mission was created with B17/B24s, 75% fuel, 12x500lb bombs launching from A37. P51D/P47M with 100% fuel and droptanks were set to launch from A38.

Knights launched seven B-17 formations from A37 (6.9.4) and proceeded to climb northeast. Meanwhile, two escorts (p51D, P38L) launched from A38 and climbed northeast. Buffs turned due east and met up with the escorts in the 9.9.1 area; target alt was 23K to take advantage of a tail wind. Two other escorts arrived to boost our total fighter support to four. After going level and forming up, we were engaged by several Rook Fw190s, but our escorts were for the most part able to drive them away. We first hit the Rook AAA in sector 11.9.9 and reduced its effectiveness to 24% (not sure what it was operating at before our attack). More Rooks joined the fray and after the drop we turned north towards the Bishop AAA factory in the 12.13.3 sector. During this leg of the journey, we were thoroughly picked apart as we were lacking fighter protection and a few buffs fell out of formation. By the time we made it to the Bishop AAA, only two B17 singles were able to get their bombs off. They were destroyed soon thereafter, but the Bishop AAA was ultimately reduced from 41% to 39% effectiveness.

During the raid, we encountered at least 16 Rooks and six Bishops. Of these, there were: one Bf-109G, two Fw-190A8s, two Fw-190Ds, one La-7, one me-163, three me-262s, one Mossie, one P51B, six P51Ds, three Ta-152s, and one Tempest. By my film review, nine of these enemy planes were confirmed to be destroyed in addition to a couple more forced from the fight with damage.

Fire/explosions seemed to be the leading cause of death for our buffs. Our precious few fighter escorts lacked the fuel to make it all the way to the second target. Good times were had by all, there were instances where our buffs looked like the APUs on the Matrix Revolutions going back-to-back and our guns a blazin'. I won't be able to make it this coming weekend, but I highly suggest you don't miss out next time.
