Yeah, AAA comes in many flavors. .50 cal, 20mm, 70mm, and 5" (and probably other guns in that footage as well).

Are you familiar with the story of Lt. (jg) Earl Archer? On the day of the Pearl Harbor attack Archer was living in Hope, AR., but drove to Little Rock to enlist in the Army Air Corps. He had the flu, and the Army told him to come back when he was well. A friend talked him into joining the navy instead. That led to Archer being aboard the Kalinin Bay when it was attacked by the Japanese naval force which included the Yamato. Admiral Sprague ordered all planes off the carrier, loaded for attack or not. Archer then flew against the IJN for more than an hour, making legit gun attacks, but without bombs or torpedoes arming his TBM Avenger. While nearly out of fuel and considering rearming at Tacloban (recently retaken by MacArthur's forces), he found two other Avengers preparing to make attacks and had them form up. On their way in a very accurate AAA shell exploded behind his plane, and vaporized both of the other aircraft of his formation. This set him up for what would be immortalized in the movie Top Gun when Maverick flew his Tomcat inverted over a Mig fighter. Without ammunition in his machine guns, and without bombs of any kind, Archer made the only attack he could. As he passed over the enemy battleship he rolled his Avenger inverted, drew his .45 side arm, and fired every round into the area of the bridge. The Japanese commander thought it was the bravest act he had ever witnessed.

Still, one shot can kill.

Yup, 1 shot can kill. But if you watch some of the WWII Kamikaze videos on 'Tube you will see that 1-shot kills almost never happen even as a lone plane is 200ft off the ground flying through 10,000 guns.

Try that in AH :P

Perspective is at work here. Just because you don’t see the craft turn in to a flaming torch of awesomeness, doesn’t mean the pilot is still alive or not mortally wounded.

Another thing to keep in mind is this:

In real life, every ships gunners were constantly scanning and shooting at several targets which kind of spreads out the fire coverage and thins the lethality of the firing line.

In AH often time you will find one driver trying to take on a CV, town or base, drawing all AAA to their position.

Orbit a base that has 4 or 5 people de-acking and watch how the AAA reacts.

Better question. How much ammo was on this transport if it took out 3 ships around it?

the best cure for "wife ack" is to deploy chaff:    $...$$....$....$$$.....$ .....$$$.....$ ....$$
