What'sYour stall speed Baby?
« on: May 05, 2018, 11:27:04 PM »
According to the Republic Aviation Manual for said aircraft and WWII aviation expert Jeff Ethell  Never try to maneuver  The P47 Thunderbolt Below 130mph.    It has nasty stall characteristics  and sinks very fast at anything below that.  So You better be lined up on the runway before You slow to that speed.  However  according to this vid  The P47 handles well far below that speed.  Banks and even a reverse at around 100 mph  are executed. Maybe some tweaking can be done on that.    Have a Blast.

Not sure what you are trying to prove here...

In all honestly in the last 90 of your gripe posts I felt compelled to comment on this one.
Truly I find you annoying to the bbs and the HTC Crew. This could be something emailed to them directly to get a much more respective response.

Yeah, I’m still trying to figure it out myself.

Context is everything.   “Never try to maneuver...”   Define maneuver.

Why should I “better be lined up” before I slow below that speed?   I can still turn the thing.    I’m flying in the pattern not doing ACM.

A low, flat, power-dependent final approach is NEVER a good idea in (just about) ANY aircraft.

I don't recall him offering evidence of anything wrong so emails wouldn't change anything.

He's welcome to post his comments. You don't have to read them if they annoy you.   :aok

It amazes me how many people seem to think if you go outside what's in the POH the plane immediately falls from the sky.  I suppose IRL that's probably a better attitude than treating it as a suggestion.

It's never a good idea to push the limits, but that being said, a little planning mitigates a lot of things--and everyone builds margin into their designs in most areas.   Stall speeds are pretty spot on of course, but, like you said, a gentle bank to final is not going to result in the stall/spin of death just because you are below 130 in that thing.

For general info on the P47 the dash 1 states flaps down and landing gear (duh of course).  For P47 models B, C, D and G.
Normal approach speeds:
(a) Engine "ON" - 115 to 120mph
(b) Engine "OFF" - 120 to 130mph

Do not make sweep turns below 130 mph ias with flaps and landing gear "DOWN."

Also manual states land within the first 1/4 of runway.  Heavy aircraft requires a longer rollout.

Steep turns.   Bingo.  Normal “approach maneuvers” are clearly permitted.

I'm sure it's a typo.   Otherwise I need a translator.

The point remains, you can make normal maneuvers to land at 130 without dying.

It is actually a typo on my part.  It does say steep turns in the -1.  I'm reading the manual as we speak.
