Disabling Win7 firewall
« on: May 08, 2018, 09:22:54 AM »
I have been using Black Vipers' Windows 7 tweaks and my system is running 34-37 processes.

BV says the Win7 firewall can be disabled if you are not connected directly to the internet by using a cable company modem with it's own firewall. Also the following services can also be disabled.
      Base Filtering Engine
      IKE & AuthIP
Internet Connection Sharing ( I already disabled it)
      IPsec Policy Agent
Routing and Remote Access (already disabled it)

My rig is only used by me for AH, email and and I only go to trusted sites on the web.

My question is...Has anyone here done this and will it help with the occasional micro-pauses in DX9 ver. and the one second pauses in the DX11 ver. in the game?

Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

IMO the Windows firewall doesn't interfere too much and it adds another layer of defense in case your modem gets porked. Yes, the modems can be victims as well. They all have some sort of an operating system, being small computers themselves, and if there's a flaw in the code an attacker can use it.

 Thanks for the reply Bizman.

I will not disable the Windows firewall. But, how about disabling the Microsoft security essentials anti virus while actually playing AH and turning it back on after leaving the game. I am thinking it should be safe to do while in the game but not sure if it will help.

                 Thanks again.

I'm not sure if you can entirely shut MSE down unless you really go to the Services and disable it there, then reboot. Also, if you've reached 34-37 processes, disabling MSE won't improve things much if any. If there's a setting to bypass anything AH related, make the exception rule for it.
