Don't go to HRB unless you know the person you are going to. I am sure some offices are better managed than others but buyer beware applies. You don't need a CPA you just need a tax preparer. Only 2 states have education/testing/work requirements to hang out your shingle as a tax preparer (NJ and OR) you can get a preparer who is an Enrolled Agent which means they had to pass 3 tests from the IRS. It isn't rocket science but you want to make sure the person doing it has been doing it for a few years and isn't going to unavailable if you get an audit letter.
