Pilot and gear pic, any ideas?
« on: June 21, 2018, 06:45:16 PM »
This is a pic of Pips Priller. Look at all the gear he has hanging off him. Can anyone shed light on all the stuff he is carrying? I have never seen a pilot with so much gear, and I assume it was survival gear? I don't remember if he served on the Eastern Front, but that might explain some of it. He would never fit in a 109!  :devil

Priller served only in western Europe. At the time of this photo, he was in northern France. It is probably ocean survival equipment because many sorties were over the English Channel.

Search for images of Allied pilots all loaded up to go From England to Berlin. It was a lot of gear when you include the survival gear.  No doubt the same on both sides

Yea I remember a lot of pilots accounts from both sides, that their worst fear was crossing the channel.

Probably some sort of life preserver or raft included.

What stands out, to me, is the back chute that looks remarkable like a modern design.

The 190 pilot looks like Pips Priller wearing High altitude gear and a portable O2 bottle for High alt bailout.   Or maybe it has coffee.  have a blast

The controls in the HE 111  bomb aimer's cabin. is probably  for a wire or remote control bomb like the Fritz X or a fiesler product , of the type I can't recall.
