G.I. Joe Stuff - Ah the 80s
« on: July 22, 2018, 12:32:31 AM »
My cousins were older than me so they had the huge Joe stuff.  I grew up on the smaller action figures.  I own(ed) every single figure and vehicle--some of which I had more than one, including FOUR Skystrikers, which is a long story--for the first five or so years they were produced.  So I decided to go dig out of storage at my mother's house the USS Flagg aircraft carrier she got me for Christmas back then.  It was still in the box! Holy cow this thing is huge.

Also found a mint HISS Tank and MOBAT still in their boxes.  Crazy.  I should sell it all and be done with it but geeze what a childhood.

I'm jealous.  My folks were both Hippies and my dad was conscripted during the Vietnam conflict so my G.I. Joe Collection was pretty lame.  And then became pretty non existent after I was old enough to play with fireworks unsupervised.

I do have the first 2 seasons of the Cartoon on this computer so I just have to make due with that.

The first year that series of GI Joe stuff came out, I had most of the entire set, including both those tanks, the goofy F14 like jet, the A10 like jet, the helo, all that and the figures.  Remember the tank you could move the turret forward and back which would make the treads move and it'd put around the floor.  Good times.  None of that stuff, or all my Star Wars stuff including the AtAt walker and a gen 1 Xwing with both Luke Skywalker figures survived my .22 and firecracker stages of early teens.  All blown to bits.

That’s the MOBAT I posted above.  High tech stuff!  Batteries not included.  Lol

Stuff that’s not in the box is still affordable and readily available.   They have also re-issued some things so we can spoil our kids. Ha ha ha.

I remember owning the Cobra HISS tank. If you removed the turret by lining up the notches you could put GI Joes into the vehicle to act as an armored transport.

I had my first Joe for my 5th birthday in 1965.  he survived some serious adventures and still exists, beaten and battered all these years later :)

My son had the smaller versions as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s. Both served their purpose for fun :aok
