Yankee Air Museum renamed C-47

The Yankee Air Museum’s renamed C-47 was recently unveiled at Oshkosh. The paint scheme on the C-47 depicts the 1st Air Commando Group in the China-Burma-India theater during 1943-1944. The "Hairless Joe" nose art on this aircraft honors then Major Dick Cole. Prior to serving in the CBI theater, Dick Cole was Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle's co-pilot on April 18, 1942 in the daring B-25 raid on Tokyo.
Lt. Col. Dick Cole, pictured standing in front of Yankee’s C-47 as well as in front of the original aircraft (on the left side, squatting), will be 103 in September!
The newly named C-47 was painted by donation thanks to Kalitta Air, LLC and Sherwin-Williams with an outstanding job by artists Kevin Max Wisniewski, Andrea Toussaint, & Nic Berlin Johnson.

The Yankee Air Museum's B-17 "Yankee Lady" just flew directly over my house -- really low. I live near the museum in a rural area so sometimes see their aircraft and others that come for air shows. Had Thunderbirds F-16s practicing over the house a couple of weeks ago -- smoke, afterburners, the whole show.
Used to work on the University of Michigan campus and would point and shout when a B-17 would fly by. The students just stared at their cell phones (probably trying to ignore the crazy old guy).
