Fiar Teams????
« on: December 06, 2001, 11:24:00 PM »
Hi all I was just wondering How can we fix the Unequal teams in the TOD.  It seems that certain squads are set to a specific side right? And they dont change or rotate countries, right? Wouldnt that help even out the game play?  Or maybee switch a squag or 2 to Axis.

I recomend a rotation of sides b/c in my opinion the Axis planes are ok but lack in many areas the allies excell.  I bet most of the people dont show for axis due to the fact that they hate those plane types.

Maybee some admin can come up with a way to balance the poor planes on axis or poor numbers on axis with the numerical and mechanical advantage of the allies at present. Maybee when it is 2 v 1 the Axis can have 2 lives to even out the numbers.

Im onlt here a few months and only in TOD for about 1, but much fun is lost when you have 5 guys in zeros and you see 15 f4'4 and 6's inbound.

Thx

As mentioned in Funked's thread.  the numbers started about even.

Axis lost a large squad at the start of the event.

Many Allied squads had over 100% participation.

Allied Frame 2

332 Mongrels - 9  pilots 128% Registered as a squad of 7 - 10

MAG 33       - 17 pilots 154% Registered as a squad of 11 -15

AK's         - 11 pilots 157% registered as a squad of  7 - 10

Rougue Squad - 5  pilots 125% Registeredas a squad of 4- 6

Assassins    - 5  pilots 45%  Registered as a squad of 11 - 15

VMF 101      - 9  pilots 56% Registeres as a squad of 16 - 20

412 Braunco  - 8  pilots 200% Registered as a squad of 4 - 6

416th RCAF   - not sure here Registered as a squad of 4 - 6
            _____________
              64 pilots (without 416th)

Total registered pilots 64 - 88

Axis Frame 2

FDB             6 pilots - 150% Registerd as a squad of 4 - 6

332 Viking      7 pilots - 100% Registered as a squad of 7 - 10

Screaming Blue  7 pilots - 100% Registered as a squad of 7 - 10

JV44            8 pilots - 114% REgistered as a squad of 7 - 10

13 TAS          3 pilots - 75%  Registered as a squad of 4 - 6

308th Polish    4 pilots - 100% Registered as a squad of 4 - 6

56th FG         6 pilots - 85%  Registered as a squad of 7 - 10

JG2             2 pilots - 50% Registered as a squad of 4 - 6

Blue Thunder    does not show any for frame2
        _______________________
          43 pilots

Total registered pilots 44 - 64

** The abovce Axis numbers do not include Blue Thunder or 8th Armored.  8th Armored was a squad we dropped since the CO that registered was on his two week trial and "s;lipped through"

With the 8th Armored it would have been

               51 - 74

A difference of 21 pilots.  That is not cool and as I wrote these results I know that I made a mistake when choosing sides.

I have too many "large squads" flying Allied.  This is tough for the Axis who have several small squads of 4-6 pilots meeting up with 10-15 member squads.

We will run into this from time to time as the TOD continues.  Even if we have the large squads divided up better it is still possible for a squad of 4-6 pilots to meet an enemy squad of 10-15.

BUT..the numbers are a little screwed up since I set the teams.  We have added two more squads to the Axis making 4 squads added since this TOD started.

We could have asked a squad or two to switch sides but I decided not to...in hindsight that was probably a mistake.

For this I apologize the the Axis guys.

I also want to add to what Skernsk is saying.....

It doesnt matter, really which side a squad wants to fly on Thumper.  All squads are required to switch sides and fly for either the Axis or the Allies at one time or another....that is in the rules.  While we try to do our best to insure that most people get their choice of sides, at some time during the TOD series, a squad will be asked to or be assigned to a side they may or may not want to be on.  But keep in mind, every squad will have to change sides at some point.

Maybe the large squads should split into two wings if possible (if they're mission is fighter sweep or something, sweep two different areas.)  If a large squad is given an attack mission, why not let them divide some to attack and some to escort (especially if you're over 12 people in the squad, 8 bombers, 4 escorts.)  That way you don't have to assign an additional squad as escort.  Also, you could ask a large squad on escort duty to cover two attack squadrons.

Overall, numbers would still be messed up, but maybe you wouldn't run into 3 v 1 fights.

I'll get with daddog and discuss this.  I'm sure some participants won't be happy, but it does make sense.

I have some different ideas that may blend in nicely and have little or no impact on this at all.

Skernsk not to nitpick .. but I will anyway  ;), the Nightmares had 16 pilots up in frame 2 not 9.

We have a pilot roster of 24 pilots now (added 1 more tonight) but out of those 24 I have only been able to get about 2/3rd up for any particular frame (15 in frame 1, 16 frame 2 and 14 frame 3).

Heh..you are correct :)

I looked back to last TOD and the numbers for frame 1 showwed Axis had 19 more pilots but Allied still won the frame.

Unfortunately this is a problem that is very hard to correct.

All I can say is C.O's please update your ROSTER on a regular basis because when we set the teams we use the numbers in the roster.

Hey, it was fun anyway.

Besides, you think the actual Japanese pilots went back to their CO's and said "hey, wait a minute... they have more pilots and planes up there than we do!!"
