I have no data on this airplane other than it was 3 Squadron RAAF.   This is an amazing skin by Kev367th.  I managed to pull the paint chips out for the spec maps but left the Diffuse untouched.     This plane really holds up well.

Excellent as an Australian so happy this one is fixed. 3 squadron was the only Australian unit that seen combat in the P-51 so this is a big one for us.
Nicely done.  :rock

Little info on the plane.

It looks a lot better with the new maps Vraciu. All Kev's skins are excellent, he was a very talented skinner.

Looks like none of the B/C models had the yellow leading edges or white stripes with 3 squadron.
Who new!

Sure looks like there's a white stripe on the wing of this plane. Agree with the lack of yellow leading edge, though.

Quite a bit more to the outboard though...

From the bible on Aussie and New Zealand flown Mustangs "Southern Cross Mustangs" by David Muir.

The only photo proof out there of a Malcom hood Mustang in the MTO.  Same Squadron.  Flown down from England apparently with standard ETO markings.  Might be worth your while to make it historically accurate to a Malcom bird in that Squadron.

Maybe, but this skin is way down the priority list.   I was restoring it not repainting it.   That said, if anyone wants it before I get around to a true update I can ask to transfer it.  Would be an easy fix either way.

(Image removed from quote.)

You didn't read the link.

http://www.aussiemodeller.com.au/pages/Gallery/Aircraft_A-D/Bradford_mustangIII.html

"There were NO white ID bands around the wings, or tail plane on either version of KH616. "

“Certainly (figure 1) gives no indication of white stripes on the leading edge of the tailplane, and the appearance of a white "stripe" on the near wing is probably an unfortunate combination of the red-doped gun ports on the wing leading edge (just outboard of the u/c leg) and some sort of (exhaust? spilt fuel?) staining. The lighter area visible is definitely not in the standard location for the white stripe seen on British-based Mustangs.”

No visible stripes on this one.

If this is the standard placing on MTO RAF birds they should be visible.

I'm not buying the dope portion, the red in the roundels is very dark in the image.

A fuel spill eating through the paint? maybe. The problem is that spilled fuel should flow down to the rear if spilled. so barring some fool spraying fuel forward/up the wing and it removing paint on the gear door perfectly perpendicular to the direction it would flow off the wing - and also almost perfectly in line with the inboard edge of the removed paint on the wing with the door closed.

Sorry. That's a white painted stripe in my mind.
