When you see a new name, don't simply assume he or she is a shade of an old hand.

If you shoot down a new name, befriend them and keep it light.

The learning curve is hard enough without getting attitude from players on your first sortie.

It doesn't take much time to point them in the right direction and let them know what is most important when first starting out here such as controls optimization.

Now if someone logs in and rattles off questions like "how do I start the engines?" or other stuff easily found on the website, let them know nicely where that information can be found.

How many questions are your limit when it's obvious a new person has not done any research at all?

Let's say he asks, "how do I select a plane?" followed by "how do I start the engine?" followed by "how do I raise the gear?" followed by "how do I shoot the guns?" before you refer him to the place that has all of that information?

I really think a good stick thread here with screenshots and links would help new pilots get started.

Is there a thread with screen shots of the controls setup?    I haven't seen one but I remember posting them at Warbirds so long ago.

I always try to make the new players feel welcome. They may just like this game and they have friends too

We could possibly work with Hitech to initiate a policy within squads that any squad officer makes an offer to help tutor noobs when they are identified as such? I think an offer in earnest from some of us old farts might go a long way with Hitech... We don't need top make it a recruiting effort, just an offer to help them get in the air and learn a bit about tactics. Get them flying and having fun...

YUP! Treat EVERYONE with respect! Does living by the Golden Rule gone by the way side? As to Icepicks comment about "How many questions is your limit"? I fly a few Multiple Player games and the MASS of these games involve REQUIRED Completion of some basic game play mechanics. The other games offer it but dont require it. This could be a BOON for keeping New Players imo. Sure, we have a few Trainers that sacrifice their time to help folk...but OBVIOUSLY this isnt enough. I think it may be a PRIDE thing...like admitting you need help diminishes your self esteem? Other games you pick up naturally...so asking for help hurts a bit? Just putting it out there  :aok

Not really... ancient hieroglyphs prove the existence of several Ramesis or Ramsis… the only proof of Moses
and the parting of the red sea is in biasis of the Torah, the Bible and other obscure sources

I like where you are going with this, however we don't need Hi-tech for this.  It is simply on us.  Retention of players is something only we as players can do.

Things would make this kinda stuff much easier if HT would help us with it. Maybe a list of squads that will help them out  when they log in and just click on the squad name to come into contact with us or something. I really had to go out of my way to contact new players when we launched on steam. Now it's harder to indemnify them than than...

Players who have dedicated country loyalty and not belong to a squad can form Bishop or Knight or Rook New Player Squads and begin teaching.  Easier said than done.  Who will volunteer their time and make it happen?
