Perked Rolling Planesets?
« on: August 11, 2018, 02:51:31 PM »
Is it possible to et the AVA up with a rolling planeset, and have the non available planes in the entire set perked, for players that want to fly the later models early on in the arena?

Yes this would place an unfair advantage fro the players with perk points, against the new players.  But, it might well be the nudge needed to populate the AVA again.  :salute

we do this all the time. there are no perkies in the AVA.

IE we have jet week with jet available to anyone that comes in. we have tank night with all tigerII's available to everyone.

perks don't matter in the AVA

I think he's asking if you could fix it so that noobs could fly P-51s in BoB, for example.

Actually, I read his post as the exact opposite: that he wants late war planes perked so only those with perks can use them.  I am not sure why or what that would accomplish.  However, I may be wrong, but I don't think the AvA admins have any control over perk settings for each plane.  Also, a rolling planeset would require the admins to show up and manually change the planeset at each step.  A lot of work for an arena that usually has no one in it.

ok lets clarify:

in the AVA we don't use perk points. therefore planes in the MA that are perked, are NOT perked in the AVA. anyone can fly them.

rolling planeset involves changing planeset on a daily basis. it could also apply to changing it weekly using the same terrain. either way it takes work.

if you're asking to perk planes willy nilly,  so that new people CANNOT fly them, we don't have that ability. if you're asking that we Perk the P51-D and not the p51-B, im not sure how that would entice people to come in. that's just clubbing baby seals! i'm not sure where you're going with that one.....

if you'd like to know what we can and cannot do, set up a terrain and planeset in the custom arena. what you can do in there is the same as our abilities as admins.

I hope this helps--<S> jaeger1

Populating the AvA isn't that complicated. Simply spend some time in there and people will show up. For that, it's best if the person(s) is a staff member so that any issue can be fixed.

The most active staffers aren't in the arena because they've moved on to terrain building for such things as Monday Night Madness and tank night, or working on real life terrains for immersion.

I will make it my promist to fly in the AVA to work the rust off when I get back.

I will be doing the MNM tooooooooooooooo. When I get my gear out of storage. I would already have it out but not sure where it is at in that big area.  :rofl

My game machine is updated. In fact on bootup I lost the main drive and the backup drive at the same time. It has 6 drives in it. In any case I am replacing them with 4TB drives.

The 2 failed drives are 1TB. They froze. I have not been able to get them to spin up. Tried the freezer and the wrist flip. No joy. I might take the disks out of one and place them in a good drive body....... carefully of course.

Close, but no bullseye

AVA pilots would be building AVA perk points as they play.  Non-transferable to the MA.  But that would probably require a new Perk coding, or rework of the arena settings at the least.  HT most likely won't feel up to it, unless the numbers grow fast, and you players start squeaking the gears on the forums.
