Squad or Personal Training
« on: August 12, 2018, 12:25:28 PM »
A general question about you and your squad. How often do you feel you should or need to train to keep your skills where you want them to be?
Or even the non-squad players, how often do you practice to keep that knife edge sharp?

My squad is now almost as sharp as plastic preschool scissors.  No amount of training can sharpen us any further.

I never really practiced. In my very early days, I used to warm up a bit in the Training Arena (back then we almost always had a mix of new and old players in it). But my real practice was just fighting in the MAs. I lacked ambition for any practice or getting trained beyond that level. ;)

When I flew with the Mafia, once a month, squad night, we would go over thinks players had questions on.... how to dive bomb in a 38 with out lawndarting and such.

When I flew with the Ronin, odd would setup nights for training, some with the trainers, and we would go over things, but it wasnt some weekly, by weekly type thing. Odd would ask, if there was enough intrest he'd set it up.

Now I fly with the 56th. We dont do "training", but the top guys are willing to drop what ever they are doing to do some work on one thing or another. I have been lucky to have squad mates that are willing to train others. Most are very humble and start out with "I'm no pro, but...." but then get down to business.

Todays player I think is more of a gamer, and they game. That is their practice. Squads are just "clans" or "facebook groups" to most of them. In the old days I think more players took pride in which squad they were in and wished to work at getting better to NOT let the squad down.

The 80th has always been able to spread 38 parts around the map. We didn't learn it, folks say we could do that before we was weened,,,, but they were exaggerating a bit.

When I was still part of The Wreaking Crew I was the training officer there (8 years ago). We would train and come together every week. We usually started with a new move. This could be anything, like booming and zooming together to have always someone on the enemy's six, tatch weaving or just practice just the same barrel roll over and over. After that we went on to gunnery and. At the end we would alsways try using the things we went over in a actual fight in the ma. The rest of the week a gave my guys some homework to practice with. The Next week we would just do 1 repeat of last week's and saw if it sticked. It usually did and after that we would carry on to the next move. That was definitely the period I could content with anyone in a 1v1 or even a 1v2.

Nowadays I don't fly as often, don't practice and had massive breaks in between witch sapped all the skill Juice  out of me. If I wanna become as good as back than I need a training partner for every day. I don't have the time anymore to do that though. But if I did I would start back at the basis. For example sustained turns and. Keep it there as long and as tight as I can. Also playing out scenarios of what could happen. And what I really really really liked to do was practicing the standard wingman's tactics. If you got that down with your wingman you can take on whole groups of pilots with just the 2 of you.

Anyway that's my 2 cents  :salute
