Had a blast tonight.   Spent time in the furball.  Spent time taking bases.  We took four bases in almost no time while all the others were purse swinging.

This may very well be the ideal compromise.   Well done Hitech.   :aok

EVEN THE RUSSIAN judge gave him an 8.5 :devil Why he kept flying to my base, so I could watch...I will never know...it was great though  :neener:

It was a new stick setting.

Damned thing put me into a blackout loop and I could not get it out even with auto level engaged.

I shot a figure 8 all around joeblack’s Spit, too.

I did manage a five-kill run before I went to taking bases so I am hopefully figuring it out.  I better since I have no screenshot of my old settings.   :bhead

Unless it's a poorly calibrated joystick in windows, a joystick setting in AH shouldn't throw your plane into a loop.  If it's a new stick, recalibrate.  If it is an old stick, think about getting a new one.

Not sure (it's not from documentation or anything, simply from observation), but I think that when in full black out all control input is frozen. No stick or key commands do anything. Impossible to let the stick go, and impossible to enable the AP. Only way to get out seems to be when sufficient speed is bled off so that the plane diesn't do the high gees abymore.

I think the "loop" he may be talking about is he would go into a blackout, and as soon as his pilot would come to, it would throw him back into a blackout over and over again, most likely because he had "auto level" on and his plane attitude was no were near level flight and so would snap him back into a black out. Best thing to do is to leave the stick alone, come out of the black out and THEN right the ship. Just need plenty of alt for the recovery.

I have no idea what caused it.  It was the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen.   Full on blackout in an extended duration loop with auto level pressed.   I came out of it nose down about two seconds before I hit the ground.

I did recalibrate but it was still squirrelly and I took half the night getting used to it again.    Are you saying the AH calibration alone is not enough?   I remember a Windows calibration in XP.   Haven’t looked for it in 10.

It was an epic faceplant to be sure.   :headscratch: :rofl

Thing is it never came out.   It stayed in it for a good ten seconds or more and only came out two seconds before I hit the ground.

I know what you are referring to where you get that momentary recovery and the. Right back into it.   It was not that.   :headscratch:

I was in the tunnel when I let go and pressed X.    The nose was just coming above the horizon when I did it.   Auto should have worked.

But I’ve been seeing some really screwy autopilot actions since the latest major change to it (my favorite being pressing level and seeing the airplane do a nose over lawn dart).  I’ve augered a bunch lately due to autopilot screwiness.   :headscratch:

It's lots of fun to have your thumb hold the up trim button when performing a hammer head, you will not notice it until you are on the down line and the stick starts jamming you in the gut.

I can believe that.

I wondered if it was a trim issue related to dropping bombs and firing rockets then pulling out.   But the only trim setting mapped to my stick is Combat Trim, so it would have had to be something I did before the pullout.   It was a major OH SHEET moment to be sure.   I wish I had filmed it.    I would love to see it from external view.   :rofl

Gentlemen, I don’t know how many of you still remember the old flight sim classic “Fighter Ace” but that would be a great model for the AH team to consider if they truly want to see Aces High move toward the top once again.  Fighter Ace was an exceptional flight sim because it was very inclusive and more appealing to all classes of pilots; Newbies, Super Jocks and Oldies like me.  As a real pilot almost 40 years I found that Fighter Ace offered a great balance between realism and simple gaming that appealed to everyone. Unfortunately, that balance doesn’t exist in AH but it certainly could.  Simplicity is the answer if the AH team are really interested in growing their membership and reducing their defections. The game has become way too sophisticated for the average Joe that’s just looking for a relaxing evening of flying action.  As a matter of fact read this quote by Leonardo da Vinci:
Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication Leonardo da Vinci
More often than not we have the tendency to complicate rather than simplify.  We assume that sophistication equals results, brilliance, performance, and intelligence but it doesn’t.  More information, more choices, and more products are not better.  In fact it is the exact opposite more is actually less and can cause your audience to disengage.   “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

Old Leonardo got this one right in my opinion and the proof is in the pudding when it comes to AH.  Newbies are turned off because they can’t get a leg up against the super jocks that rule the skies and the Oldies like me are leaving because we simply can’t compete with the younger generation that’s not burdened with slow reflexes, hearing aids and progressive trifocals…Lol.
I think it’s time for a realistic yet simplistic arena designed for everyone. Here are the parameters:

(1) Turn every freaking thing on but most of all FULL DAR . Seeing everything is a good thing and fair to all !!!
(2) Turn daylight on 24/7 and eliminate this stupid night flying crap.
(3) Clear the haze off the horizon so us older guys can see better. I just don’t understand the need for haze and you were actually able to clean it up under the old version…why the change???  Seeing is always better!!!
(4) Simplify taking a scene.  Example: Take down AAA and 50% of the buildings, drop troops for a 60 sec run without all being killed and take the scene. Something like that would allow squads to really do something in a couple hours, earn a few medals and feel a since of accomplishment…what’s wrong with that???
(5) Eliminate one of the countries and I don’t care which! All we need are two countries so we can keep the action moving regardless of low numbers.
(6) Allow all prop driven aircraft (no jets) to be flown by anyone anytime.  My favorite aircraft is the corsair/20mm and I haven’t flown that bird more than a few hours in over 8 years of flying in AH.  With all due respect, that’s simply ridiculous.
(7) Open up the old dueling arena with 2 sides and shorten the distance.  Practice is essential to becoming a good fighter pilot and for newbies to build confidence…what’s wrong with that?
With these few simple changes I know close to a dozen pilots that would move back or join AH for the first time.
Now I understand that no one likes change when they’re flying high but sometimes change is necessary for the good of all.  I’m 70 and it really doesn’t make much difference to me because I really don’t care much about getting shot down and scores mean nothing to me.  It’s all about having a good time with some great guys that enjoy aviation as I do. Just remember what good old Leonardo said:

I have to disagree about Fighter Ace. I flew there for quite some time as Qwikthink. While we had great times there I came over to Aces high because of everyone talking about it. Many left FA for here and I was one of them. I found Aces High to be far superior in every way. While I flew in the H2H arenas for some time, I finally joined the subscription club. I have been here since about 2000 and on these boards since 2002.

Is this with AH or RL  full scale aircraft?
