more daylight time
« on: September 02, 2018, 09:16:26 AM »
So many times I have logged on this month and the sun is setting.  The low light visibility takes quite a bit of enjoyment out of the game for me.  Increasing gamma in order to see what I'm fighting makes it look horrible.  The AH3 light seems to absorb more than reflect off airplanes, making them much darker than AH2.

Would love if dawn/dusk/night was removed from the Melee Arena altogether, but please at least increase the amount of daylight time.

For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

Lol and I thought this was only happening to me! I can only manage a dozen or so hours to fly a month and it's been kind of a running gag with the squad. As soon as I log on - - - well well look at that! It's dark again! Drano "the bringer of night" just logged on! Absolutely nuts. It's not even funny now as it's every time I log on the sun is either about to go down, had just gone down or has just come up. All I ever seem to get is mostly dark every time I fly!

Look I totally appreciate the effort put into the totally awesome night sky. I love the sunrises and sunsets especially with some puffy clouds around. It all looks great! Problem is it's near impossible to see the other players in the game which kind of defeats the purpose. I'd add any reason for people to log off the game is another nail in the coffin. People log when it gets dark. No Bueno!

I'm all for shortening the night AND the dawn /dusk periods. If you simply MUST have it, fine - - but it lasts way too long and what purpose it serves THIS game escapes me. Call me crazy but I kinda like flying my day fighter during the daylight hours.

The easiest way to handle the night time is to move to another base. The map has "time zones" so it isnt dark everywhere at the same time. That means that you can decrease the time you have to fly in darkness if that is an issue. But otherwise you can just rtb when it start to get dark and reup. By the time you are over the enemy base again it will no longer be dark...

Of course! I could just fly in another part of the map where it's light out! Genius! There's probably a fight there - - - uhhh----right?

Yup there are plenty of options if you have trouble with the dusk/dawn time in the game.....

Move to another base and fly around alone.

Move to another base and drive around alone.

Spawn a PT boat and circle the CV alone.

Best yet, log off and come back later..... maybe.

We are lucky these days to have ONE fight going on a map and having to move to a different "time zone" isnt a real option.

This.   Upping at another base is not an option when you're circling around bad guys in the dark trying not to hit the ground.

I mean some people just shoot relative to the icon or turn up the gamma so dusk is pointless.

You are crazy.

It all makes sense now. It's dark, and we just got the solution. All fighters are upgraded to night-fighters with radar that allows to approach the enemy in total darkness. It just needs some more fine-tuning - altitde display and cockpit-light.

That's just silly. Night fighters(that's night fighters - - not ALL fighters) of the time had EXTREMELY short range radar and actually relied on visual for the final attack. They had to be vectored near enough to the target by more powerful but still inaccurate ground radar in the first place. Even so you could probably count the number of night fighter on night fighter engagements on one hand and that's probably being generous. I'm just thinking it's possible it happened at all.

All that said I do think a dedicated night fighter arena would be pretty cool but there's a problem with that. It's the players. See I kinda lived this nightmare before. Years ago I volunteered to be a radar controller in a BoB scenario. I was a third country that had only the radar sites at V bases on the SE coast of England. I would vector by PM to the GLs assigned to me. Had like a 5 minute delay to stimulate the primal radar sets. What was the first target? The radar sites! That folded like a cheap suit with one bomb hit or strafing. And so went each of the 3 frames. 3 hours of a Saturday afternoon shot to hell in the first 30 minutes. Not enough fighters to go around to protect them AND hit the giant LW steamroller coming thru. And this was in full daylight!

So, great idea but it would be totally abused by those who want only to hide in the dark rather than fight.

The game is fading away and will probably be gone soon, but that has nothing to do with the night time.

As the "main" factor, no, but as one of the additional reason players are leaving, I'd put it in the top 10. In a game with 600 players a night playing the dusk/dawn wouldnt be that much an issue. But while Im sure many would still log off because of it, now a days its just one more thorn in the side of players.

The more time people spend away from the game the less they need it.   The reasons for logging off become more numerous and trivial.   Anything that contributes to this cycle is a bad idea.
