My last job before retirement was at Chino state prison in California. I was a carpenter foreman working with a crew of supposedly nonviolent inmates. This program was called inmate ward labor.
One day while talking to the inmate who was in charge of the tool crib he told me a Christmas story. I believe he was at Cochran state prison where he was shanking a fellow inmate on Christmas eve. He was really getting into the story and was showing me his technique. The guy was just about done when he slipped on the blood on the floor and that's when the tower guard fired just missing him as he fell." Prison guards here don't fire warning shots"
Not knowing what to say I told him it was just like a Christmas miracle and the laughed and said yes those damn guards don't miss
