That's Dogsbody (Sir Douglas Bader), who lost both legs above the knees in a flying accident and still fought on this day in 1940 with artificial legs, damaging several aircraft and destroying a Do 17. He was later forced to bail out of his Spitfire Mk VA (eight Browning 303s) in a fighter sweep over France fighting outnumbered. After destroying a 109 he possibly had a collision with another and lost his tail. One of his tin legs famously trapping him as he tried to bail at great speed in a spin until he unstrapped it and left it behind in the aircraft. He was made a prisoner of war and eventually sent to Colditz for repeated escape attempts and goon-baiting.

He lead the victory flypast over London in 1945.

The AMC special Air Aces, think was name of it :uhoh had him in one episode. The Germans even allowed the Brits to air drop a replacement for the prosthetic he lost ditching his plane. Talk about a Never Quit attitude! He had that IN SPADES :rock They said he could actually do more in fighters than average pilots, as far as taking Gs. Less blood flow area, being the blood couldnt settle in his lower legs-for obvious reasons :uhoh What a guy! :rock
