FW 190A-4 flown by Walter Nowotny in the spring of 1943. This 190 was initially painted overall white at the depot when delivered in February 1943. As the snow melted in the spring, splotches of RLM 71 was painted over the white. With the new 190's, Nowotny would increase his victory total from 63 to 108 by summer and would be the first pilot to reach 250 in October of the same year. He was removed from front line service in November with 255 victories and transferred to southern France teach the 190 to students of Jg 101. Nowotny would return to combat in October 1944 leading the first operational Me 262 fighter group, Kommando Nowotny, scoring 3 victories in the jet before being killed in a fiery crash on November 8th, likely the victim of P-51's operating in the area.
