TOD "Walkons"
« on: December 22, 2001, 01:07:00 AM »
I think just about everyone in the TOD wants to see the guys who want to fly in the TOD get a chance to fly. I'm certainly sympathetic to it and wish that everyone who wanted to play would get the opportunity.

However, the "walkons" have to take a bit of responsibility here.

TOD's are a bit complex, with orders going out during the week, plans being made, etc.

If you want to play, you have to be in a TOD registered squad. No secret there, right?

I think just about ANY "TOD squad" would take a "guest", even a new guy that just wanted to see how it worked.

So, if you want in, stir your stumps a bit. Contact somebody in a registered outfit and secure a guest slot. You'll have to go to the SEA arena BEFORE the TOD frame starts and "join" that squad (which doesn't affect anything in the MA) or else you can't fly.

Tod squads?

Look on Lower Left for "Tod Squad" list

"Squads (click to contact C.O.)
***Blue Thunder***
13th TAS
308 (Polish) Squadron "City of Cracow" RAF
332 Viking Squad
332nd Flying Mongrels
412th FS "Braunco Mustangs"
457th BG Fait Accompli
56th Fighter Group
Arabian Knights
Fat Drunk Bastards
Jagdgeschwader 51 "Molders"
JV44 Wurger-Staffel
LuftJägerKorps
Marine Air Group 33
Nightmares VMF-101
Rogue Squadron
The ASSASSINS
The Screamin' Blue Messiahs"

Real simple and there's good reason for doing it this way.

Please do come join us... it's fun. But PLEASE take the time to do it right. You'll feel better and so will the rest of us.. because we won't see an eager player turned away at the last minute.

Cya up there!

Copy that Toad....

Not only do they need to get specific orders but the terrains and they really need to read the general rules and the specific TOD write up.

JV44 will take anyone as a guest.

But help us out a bit here.  :)

All the guest I've flown have been part of the fun.

Guys, every thing you say makes sense, but....

Is the TOD more complex than a full blown scenario?

We use/need walk ons for those. Always have after the first frame.

No seeker but the reason TOD runs so smooth is that it relies on the squad structure to get everything going.

This way its less complicated.

With guests its the responsibility of the squad co they are flying with to get his guys up to speed prior to the event.

Its more or less a controlled walkon process that works well.

Nobody is in the arena that isn't accounted for and it makes things much easier for scoring.

Seeker,

The scoring is entirely squad based. If you are not "in" the squad, even as a guest, the score program doesn't know what to do. See this thread in this forum:

orphaned pilots - The Black Sea - frame 1

Orphaned pilots are usually walkons that had a problem with squad affiliation. There can be no results until this is resolved.

Beyond that, as Wotan said, being in a squad saves a lot of work and briefing time. Your squad leader gets the orders, determines how they will be carried out and assigns the duties in the squad.

It's actually a pretty nice working system.
