All air contacts should have the same icon.  When a bomber icon pops up on dar, it's like ringing the dinner bell.  Not fair to the bomber pilots and is a case of TMI in the game.

Tanks, troop carriers and AA vehicles all have the same dar signature.  What's good for the goose, as they say...

I agree. I liked the dots too. IMO, all Hitech has to do was change the Radar damage to that of a Vehicle hanger. The fact any ole guy can down the bases radar with a few cannons just makes it so people don't see the action on the map, only dars and blinking bases, a new player doesn't understand that, so they will not roll if they see no planes there. It's just too easy to take down a bases radar.

Yep.  Actually made a person do a little guessing as to what was going on.  That was much more fun than knowing what the target is and which way it's turning/heading.
As it is now it's just too gamey.

+1   The dots were fine as they were.  I don't miss the dar getting porked and being blind though.  The new proximity dar is great for finding action.

Despite my initial horror I think the proximity dar is a good feature. I do think you could lose the bomber/fighter icons but maybe still have the direction the aircraft is traveling in represented. On the other hand maybe the proximity dar should show white type of aircraft while regular radar would be just dots or arrows. My thinking is that proximity dar is just a proxy for visual reports from aircraft and vehicles which would include aircraft type.

Proximity - dar is a problem where it does not automate reporting of visual contacts, but indicates planes that have not yet been seen. Flying at 10k it pops up a goon on the deck. It is more like simulating an on-board targeting computer than it is simulating/automating communication between planes. And thus limits options. Whee there's fewer options there is less long-term interest.
