First world problems
« on: March 09, 2019, 06:44:36 AM »
I just read a comparison review about shock protective smart phone cases for mostly high end phones. The "facts" below were mostly mentioned in the article:
  • The thinner a phone is, the better. Or at least more enviable.
  • Inductive charging is a must, so metal is not a suitable material for the back plate. Since plastic isn't fancy, glass it has to be no matter how fragile that is.
  • A book or wallet type cover doesn't show the brand and model of the phone. The case has to have holes to show the logo.
So to solve the durability issues of a thin phone not made out of some lame plastic there's a variety of plastic cases that can double the thickness.

To me that sounds like a hard core nudist wearing clothes, saying (s)he's stark naked underneath.

It is a quite comical circle jerk. I like the Note phones for the size of the screen, the OS (which allows you to do so much more), the cameras, and the sylus.

I then put it in a Otter Defender case and have no issues.

Best story I ever heard re: cell phones dates back to the 90's when they were not quite so pervasive. Some guys on a backcountry ski outing, pristine wilderness, cold clear blue sky, stillness and silence except for the sound of breathing and the click and swish of skis..etc. etc. They come up to a ridge and take a break overlooking unspoiled ridges and mountains as far as they can see. One guy has a phone, this fact is announced when it starts ringing, he takes it out to answer it, another guy says "give me that" snatches it out of phone guy's hand and throws it. The phone flyie out away from the ridge in a long arc warbling as it goes, soon out of sight as it plummets towards the valley below. Silence restored phone chucker guy pulls out his wallet and strips off some hundred dollar bills and hands them to to phone guy without saying a word.

These days I bet almost no one would understand why I think phone chucker guy is a hero.

@Zimme, exactly. If you need protection for an expensive "quality" object, the quality is insufficient. No matter if it's because you're outside the "natural environment" of the said object or if you've chosen an item qualified to another environment than yours.

@pemquist: That reminds me of a story told back in the late eighties: A yuppie was stopped at a traffic accident scene and was asked if he could call for help since he had been seen to talk to a handy while passing by. To his embarrassment he had to reveal that instead of a mobile telephone he had been flashing a TV remote control.

So we have hangars for planes, garages for cars and trucks, covers for our RVs. We ourselves wear clothing......

Otter box defender is the best protective case for a phone.  I've dropped my phone from over 10 feet high, the case protected it.
Currently ignoring Vraciu as he is a whoopeeed retard.

It doesn't make a difference what phones are made of or encased in, I will most definitely crack the screen in a month.

I have had Samsung Note phones for years and never cracked a screen. I have even thrown mine over my shoulder to show how well the case protects it.

It is important to remember, the first and main purpose of a phone is to work as a phone. The only really stupid phone is one you can't make and receive calls on.   :aok

It is a surprise that the one phone that has lasted the longest without breaking is a cheap $15.00 tracfone. I could have bought many of them just with screen replacement costs of the smartphones.
