A week later...
Palmerston North police have been left red-faced after firearms were stolen from their central police station, sparking a manhunt for the alleged offender.
Various properties have since been searched by the armed offenders squad to find the 11 unaccounted-for guns.

"Eleven firearms which were in an exhibit storage area are currently unaccounted for. I should be clear that these were not police firearms, but were a range of weapons being held as exhibits or handed in for destruction.
